Here's a fine one. It's called 24, or 41, I once even seen it called bilge dice. I learned it in a pulic house in Sacramento (they were kind enough ta have dice and cups behind the bar). Don't know the history on it, but it's a basic enough gamblin game that one would assume it has been around fer some time.

A simple game played with six dice for stakes or chips.

Play:

Every player begins by putting a unit of stakes or chips into a pot. Then each player in turn rolls the dice six times. After each roll at least one die must be put aside. Players must roll a 4 and a 1 to qualify (hence 41) to enter a score. A score is the total of the remaining four dice. If a 4 and 1 are not rolled the player scores nothing and must ante one unit to the pot.

The player with the highest score at the end of a round wins the pot, the maximum bein 24 (which explains the other title). If two or more players have the equally high score then another round is played by all with double ante to decide the game.

Play continues until players elect to end the game.

Shure enough, a fun, fast paced way ta loose yer plunder.

IN AND IN

In and In is a popular dice game at UK Pirate re-enactments.

Its easy to play, and authentic to boot.

It can be played with two or three players.

Each player has Four dice and an agreed number of coins.

A "pot" usually a small wooden bowl, or whatever is handy, is put in the middle of the table.

The first player throws all four of his dice.

if he throws a pair, i.e. Two 1's, two 2's, two 3's, etc, he calls "In !" and puts one coin in the pot.

The other player (or the player to the first players left if it it is a three player match), then throws his dice. Again, if he throws a pair, he calls "In !" and adds another coin to the pot.

This continues until a player throws an "out !" or an "In and In"

If a player fails to throw two matching numbers, he cries"Out !".

If this is a two player match, his opponent wins the pot, and a new game begins, if it is a three player match, this player sits out until the game is over, whils the surviving two players continue the game.

If a player throws two pairs, he cries "In and In!" and he wins the whole pot.

Once the pot has been won, that game is over, and a new game begins. a player who is sitting out because he has thrown an "Out" can now rejoin the match

The match continues until until one player has won all of the coins. The time the Match lasts depends on the number of coins in play. I think that 5 or 6 coins is about right for a 3 player match.

If a player has no coins left, he must throw an "In and In" (or an "out" if there are three active players) to stay in the match, if he throws an "in" he cannot meet his bet, so he mist quit and let the remaining players finish the match.

Three matching numbers only counts as one pair ("in")

Four matching numbers counts as two pairs ("In and In")

I hope that this is clear,

It is a lot more simple than it sounds, and it makes a good pub game, so you can play in and in in an inn.

Keep yer good eye out for "SHUT THE BOX" an authentic nautical game.

Played with a pair o' dice and the numbers box any number of scallywags can participate.

Take turns rolling the dice until ye can't "shut out" any more numbers.

Numbers left are yer score Low score takes the treasure.

Front Porch Classics makes a ne'r to antique lookin' one.

Me answer will probably be clearer iffen ye can actually be seein' the game.

Simple. Fun. A grande rum tippin' game that can last all night!

Also....the same trading company makes "DREAD PIRATE".

Though more than a dice game it be so 'real' that ye'll be thinkin' yer actually at sea!
