Mad Matt Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 Anyone got a internet source fer tall ship photos that show life and layout belowdeck? I'm not so much interested in drawings, though that may suffice. You will be flogged. And God willing, come morning, you will be flogged some more.
Fox Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Not too detailed, but it is a genuine cross section of a man of war from about 1690. Since there were vast differences in layout depending on size, type and nationality of vessel (there were also vast similarities of course), what is it that you're after? Mad Matt Posted December 29, 2005 Author Posted December 29, 2005 I'd like to have something to use as a template for when I decorate my house. I wouldn't mind the feeling of actually being in a room inside a ship (minus the rockin' of course). Surprised there isn't more around. No walking tours or anything. Must....get....to....ocean! You will be flogged. And God willing, come morning, you will be flogged some more.
Coastie04 Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 This has some great pictures of the USS Constitution below decks. http://www.ussconstitution.navy.mil/VirtualTour.htm Here, if you click the different tabs on the side, there's some fine pictures of HMS Victory. http://www.hms-victory.com/index.php?optio...&id=3&Itemid=26 A couple images from the Endeavour can be seen here. http://www.barkendeavour.com.au/endpesch/page10.html Coastie She was bigger and faster when under full sail With a gale on the beam and the seas o'er the rail

Killian Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 The next time I am down at the harbor and remember to take my camera I will take some picture below deck of the HMS surprise for you. I have a buddy that was an extra on that ship for the filming of Master and Commander, I will see if he has any pictures.
Mad Matt Posted January 8, 2006 Author Posted January 8, 2006 Thanks fer the help Foxe. The cross-sections do well t' help identify where things are, however I'm looking more for something like Killian's idea of walk-through photos. I do appreciate everyones help on this! You will be flogged. And God willing, come morning, you will be flogged some more.

Mad Matt Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 Thanks 'eye! Would the interior have been painted white "back in the day"? You will be flogged. And God willing, come morning, you will be flogged some more.
Killian Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Well a "White Wash" has been a around for many years, so I don't see why not, though I personally think it would still be an off white. Though I am by no means an expert.
Captain Jim Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Great Etchin's there, 'Eye. Not to get off-topic, but I've a big favor to ask: can you find out where the Surprise got those flint cannon locks? I've searched all over and cannot find a supplier. Any help would be great. My occupational hazard bein' my occupation's just not around...
Black Hearted Pearl Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Mad Matt, Get off yer bloomin arse and get yerself over to the coast for yer own looksee. There be plenty of tallships to have a look at. The Surprise, the Spirit of Dana Point, the Pilgrim, the Lynx, the Exy Johnson and the Lady Washington to name just a few. Take the plunge, mate, and feel the salty air. ~Black Hearted Pearl The optimist expects the wind. The pessimist complains about the wind. The realist adjusts the sails.
