That be not too far in the future Willie; We've already had requests to do this thing in Maryland, Michigan, Calif, and Georgia, so if the response is fair and a place to have it (preferably a ship, but a gym will do) we could be seein ye real soon.

Cost and methods of payment will be up on the site by Monday from what I'm told. Tentatively, the cost will be $110 per student for the weekend if paid in full before April1, after that it goes up to $125. Also on the site will be local restraunts and hotels.

I wish I could afford this! <sigh>

I'm sure this won't be the last; response has been great so far, and this is only the second one. The third will be in August in Michigan.

Got a lot of pirates in the Oklahoma/Texas area. Would be great to have a class for us as well. I, personally, would like to learn how to use a belaying pin as a weapon.

Diamond, the Gaoler

Feel free to log on and drop me a note on the yahoo groups list and I'll give you some info on how to go about hosting one of these seminars. the link is

As for belaying pin; we're doing some work on that as well, based partially on an 1895 text on truncheon and the idea that it was not a weapon one specifically trained in, but an "weapon at hand" used by average seamen in an emergency.

Just sent ye a private message about it!

Actually the instructors are open to holding the class just about anywhere, especially places with natural piratical settings. Cost depends a lot on how far we have to travel and how long we're stayin'.

We're a handful of folk shy of being able to afford gettting the instructors flown out for the workshop. Any who intend to make it to the class please consider signing up before April first, as that's when we have to have the travel funds allotted.

See you there!

For those still following this thread, the event was a tremendous hit! Two days totalling 16 hours of hands-on work in a variety of weapons, culminating in a free-for-all with mixed weapons on Sunday. We had 30 students in all; enough to overflow the boundaries of the DEMAS salle and into the alley!

Response was so favorable (you can read many of them on talesofthesevenseas.com) we'll be doing this again and again, each time adding new maritime weaponry and techniques!

This class was great! (Did I mention that the tomahawk was my favorite?) All of the instructors really knew what they were doing and made the class very enjoyable. Learning how to most efficiently disembowl, slice open or stab an opponent with a variety of weapons is way up there on my list of useful things to learn. I had a blast and the other folks from TO7S did as well.

We're very much looking forward to the next class!!

Monterey Jack- Congrats on your groups success! Sounds like a winning time for all involved.

Thanks, Bo; it definitely rocked. The instructors came back with so much positive feedback that we're already implementing many of the ideas and some of the weapons for the next class in Michigan and for future versions of the seminar in 2007.
