Sam Flint Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Hey I'm going to be picking up a copy of Under the Black Flag for an upcoming trip I'm taking. This is my first real read on all things Pirate that is not 100% fiction. I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on what would be a good read once I'm done with this one. Thanks Matt
blackjohn Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Anything by Rediker. http://www.marcusrediker.com/Books/Villain...of_Villains.htm And A Pirate of Exquisite Mind : Explorer, Naturalist, and Buccaneer: The Life of William Dampier is pretty good. My Home on the Web The Pirate Brethren Gallery Dreams are the glue that holds reality together.
blackjohn Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Doh! I should have asked, have you read any of the classics? Captain Johnson's General History of... the Pirates? Exquemelin's Buccaneers of America? My Home on the Web The Pirate Brethren Gallery Dreams are the glue that holds reality together.
Sam Flint Posted October 26, 2005 Author Posted October 26, 2005 No I have not. Not yet. But I'll add them to the list as well Thanks
blackjohn Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Move Captain Johnson to the top of the list. :) My Home on the Web The Pirate Brethren Gallery Dreams are the glue that holds reality together.
JoshuaRed Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Yes, followed immediately by Dampier's collected works. And DEFINITELY Rediker.
Deadeye Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 one of my favorites is The History of Pirates by Angus Konstam, it has great info, a forward by David Cordingly, and hundreds of color illustration. Makes a great coffee table book as well. Not to Step on GoF's toes or anything, but you could always looks here, on his web site. - 10 Fathoms Deep on the Road to Hell... Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum...
Patrick Hand Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 And A Pirate of Exquisite Mind Yah.... that was a good one... I have the internet version of his book. (kinda a pain to read... I like paper)....... but that was still a good book...............
