blackjohn
What was originally billed as a "meeting" in the wilds of Pennsylvania was actually more of a non-competitive firelock shoot, with a prize handed out to the best shot. I slapped together a couple pages of pics. Hopefully the file sizes aren't too tough to handle. My Home on the Web The Pirate Brethren Gallery Dreams are the glue that holds reality together. Fox
Next year are you going to have a matchlock fire? oh, and commiserations to Rummy, my doglock's called "clickfuck" ('cos that's the noise we make between us when someone shouts "fire") so I know all about 'em... Funny, I was thinking the same thing... but at this point, I believe only one of us still has a matchlock. As for Rummy and the misfire... well... it wasn't so much a mechanical malfunction as it was operator error. Funny things, these flintlocks... they need blackpowder down the barrel to make 'em work! This was really an "in group" thing. If people are interested in getting together and doing a large pirate rendezvous with live firing, I'll see if we can come up with something later in the year, or next spring. blackjohn
Yes, many of my crew are in lower PA. If I had known you were interested, I would've invited you, and we would've been more than happy to let you do some live firing too. If you ever want to try your hand at the "trying to be authentic re-enacting shtick" let me know. My Home on the Web The Pirate Brethren Gallery Dreams are the glue that holds reality together. Tudor MercWench Smith
I might just take you up on that blackjohn. Especially the live firing. I've had some shooting experience, but never with peirod guns. Maybe I should try my hand at authenticity . . .
blackjohn
I might just take you up on that blackjohn. Especially the live firing. I've had some shooting experience, but never with peirod guns. Maybe I should try my hand at authenticity . . . As an old timer re-enactor, I'm always looking about and wondering at where the next generation will come from... the people who will take up from where me and mine left off. Authenticity ain't that tough to do, and as you can see from another thread hereabouts, we do know how to have fun. When I was a lad just starting out, my first event (I was doing medieval at the time) was the MD Ren Fest. There were these two guys there, fighting steel on steel. They looked so cool. They were two of the best known guys around. Legends in their field, as it were. I thought, someday, I want to look that cool too. And today... one of those guys I re-enact alongside of at pirate events as an equal. You can do that too. Anyone here can. All it takes is a little time, money and committment. An old timer's story... worth what you paid for it, that and $4.25 will get you a triple venti no foam latte at Starbucks. Tudor MercWench Smith
and $4.25 will get you a triple venti no foam latte at Starbucks. I should know! Actually, I've been considering re-enacting for a long time (my fav teacher at school was an insane Civil War re-enactor), but I've just never gotten around to it. If it alright by you, maybe I'll pm or emai you for more info?
blackjohn
Yes, you should. Ahhh, the money I've given to Starbucks... I found the "most cost effective" way for me to drink Starbucks is to order a quad espresson in a venti cup, fill it up with milk, and nuke it. Sure, email me. I'm always looking for recruits. In fact, if you are interested, try sliding on down to Havre de Grace next weekend and check us out in action. If you'd like, you could even join in the fun. I might be able to scrounge an extra set of women's clothes for ya! My Home on the Web The Pirate Brethren Gallery Dreams are the glue that holds reality together. Duchess
So, does Vera get her name from a certain cancled television show?
blackjohn
HAHAHA... yes, you smarty you. I've really taken a massive liking to that certain show. I had just gotten the blunderbuss, and I had gone out onto the deck to test it. Then I came inside and broke it down for cleaning. As I'm cleaning it, I'm thinking, what's a good name for you. I'm sitting on the floor in the living room cleaning it, and I decided to watch, for the first time, Our Mrs. Reynolds. It was fate. :) My Home on the Web The Pirate Brethren Gallery Dreams are the glue that holds reality together.

I thought for a while about naming one of my firearms Vera, but I haven't got anything that quite lives up to that name.
