John_Young Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 "One Piece"? Crap. Utter anime crap. Stupid plot. Stupid animation. Lame Jokes. Pirate in theme only. Pirates running around with katanas? Lame. Pirates that stretch? Really lame. They stole the plot from Pirates of Dark Water. "Yo Ho, all together hoist the colours high Heave Ho, theives and beggers Never shall we die..." "I don't care who ye say you are lad, if ye say 'savvy' one more time, I'll bury this cutlass in that thick skull of yers!" -Captain John Young - PILF
William Brand Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 What John is trying so hard to say is this. He doesn't like it.
TortugaWench Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Greetings and welcome- I am a huge anime maniac, however, about 'One Piece' I must say I agree whole-heartedly with John Young. One Piece just isn't a pirates bottle o' rum, iffen ye catch my drift. I myself prefer 'Pirates of Dark Water' over OP. The pirates aren't the best thought out characters- especially Arlong and his 'mermen.' And Monkey D. Luffy... honestly? Really, I like my share of Anime, but One Piece just hasn't made my list. Sorry.
Archipirata_Felis Posted July 13, 2005 Author Posted July 13, 2005 so if the case is that pirates of dark water is the preferred pirate anime then i have two questions to ask and i hope they be answered: is there a manga of this so praised series? and if so do you think i would find it at barnes and noble? ....,^.-.^, ....|.o_o.|., ---Meow? .....'-.`.-'.\\ .....|......|.// ....|.|.|.|.|/ ...(_(.I.)_) Yay Bubbles and Rainbow Colored Pointy Objects!!! ^-^
John_Young Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 PoDW isn't anime. It's animation. Similar to He-Man, GI Joe, Transformers, etc... because it was merely a 30 minute commercial for their toys. Late 80s, early 90s is when it hit the airwaves... and unlike the above mentioned other cartoons, it actually was skillfully done. The toys were awesome too. No Manga exists, however I think Marvel or some similar company published a short lived comic. The toys were interesting, they were pretty unique considering they were made by Habro/Kenner the masters of re-using parts. The good ship "Wraith" was reused in the mid-90s for the Mortal Kombat toy line. "Yo Ho, all together hoist the colours high Heave Ho, theives and beggers Never shall we die..." "I don't care who ye say you are lad, if ye say 'savvy' one more time, I'll bury this cutlass in that thick skull of yers!" -Captain John Young - PILF
Archipirata_Felis Posted July 18, 2005 Author Posted July 18, 2005 i heard that it was sort of discontinued and the so called end just left things hanging. is this true? ....,^.-.^, ....|.o_o.|., ---Meow? .....'-.`.-'.\\ .....|......|.// ....|.|.|.|.|/ ...(_(.I.)_) Yay Bubbles and Rainbow Colored Pointy Objects!!! ^-^
Rogue Mermaid Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 I loved that cartoon but I don't ever remember an actual ending. One day there were just no new episodes.
tishsparrow Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 i used to love that cartoon, what happened to it? it just faded from memory one day...
John_Young Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 If I recall, they found all the treasure... but they got scattered and/or stolen by Bloth again. Boomerang does show it once in a blue moon. "Yo Ho, all together hoist the colours high Heave Ho, theives and beggers Never shall we die..."
