Evil Tiny

I'm not really evil...oh wait...yes I am!

Discipline is on the severe side of harsh, and I likes it that way.

I 'ave always been partial ta' "Captain Jim's Drunken Dream" by James Taylor. An' damn near anythin' by Jimmy Buffett, so long as it mentions boats or the sea. He's at his best then.

Ye really can't top Barrett's Privateers. This link should work for a page with lyrics. There doesn't seem to be a Real Audio clip anymore, but I would wager Amazon would have one.

I'm also very fond of Stan Rogers' version of "Rolling down to Old Maui"

I also can't recommend Tanglefoot highly enough. They are definately in the spirit of Stan Rogers, and sing a great number of original sea-inspired songs. Check out their pirate song Traighli Bay. The pirates win in this one!

Well then not that I spend much time in these threads but I am going to share one that everyone is certainly going to sing along in thier head with. This song is on my top twenty list and always (never fails) to get me in the mood for the weekend! "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" By Meatloaf on the Bat Out of Hell album

I remember every little thing

As if it happened only yesterday

Parking by the lake

And there was not another car in sight

And I never had a girl

Looking any better than you did

And all the kids at school

They were wishing they were me that night

And now our bodies are oh so close and tight

It never felt so good, it never felt so right

And we're glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife

Glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife

C'mon! Hold on tight!

C'mon! Hold on tight!

Though it's cold and lonely in the deep dark night

I can see paradise by the dashboard light

Ain't no doubt about it

We were doubly blessed

'Cause we were barely seventeen

And we were barely dressed

Ain't no doubt about it

Baby got to go and shout it

Ain't no doubt about it

We were doubly blessed

'Cause we were barely dressed

And we were barely dressed

Baby doncha hear my heart

You got it drowning out the radio

I've been waiting so long

For you to come along and have some fun

And I gotta let you know

No you're never gonna regret it

So open up your eyes I got a big surprise

It'll feel all right

Well I wanna make your motor run

And now our bodies are oh so close and tight

It never felt so good, it never felt so right

And we're glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife

Glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife

C'mon! Hold on tight!

C'mon! Hold on tight!

Though it's cold and lonely in the deep dark night

I can see paradise by the dashboard light

You got to do what you can

And let Mother Nature do the rest

Ain't no doubt about it

We were doubly blessed

'Cause we were barely seventeen

And we were barely-

We're gonna go all the way tonight

We're gonna go all the way

And tonight's the night...

RADIO BROADCAST

OK, here we go, we got a real pressure cooker going here, two

down, nobody on, no score, bottom of the ninth, there's the

windup, and there it is, a line shot up the middle, look at him

go. This boy can really fly! He's rounding first and really

turning it on now, he's not letting up at all, he's gonna try for

second; the ball is bobbled out in center, and here comes the

throw, and what a throw! He's gonna slide in head first, here he

comes, he's out! No, wait, safe-safe at second base, this kid

really makes things happen out there. Batter steps up to the

plate, here's the pitch-he's going, and what a jump he's got,

he's trying for third, here's the throw, it's in the dirt-safe at

third! Holy cow, stolen base! He's taking a pretty big lead out

there, almost daring him to try and pick him off. The pitcher

glances over, winds up, and it's bunted, bunted down the third

base line, the suicide squeeze is on! Here he comes, squeeze

play, it's gonna be close, holy cow, I think he's gonna make it!

Stop right there!

I gotta know right now!

Before we go any further!

Do you love me?

Will you love me forever?

Do you need me?

Will you never leave me?

Will you make me so happy for the rest of my life?

Will you take me away and will you make me your wife?

Do you love me!?

Will you love me forever!?

Do you need me!?

Will you never leave me!?

Will you make me happy for the rest of my life!?

Will you take me away and will you make me your wife!?

I gotta know right now

Before we go any further

Do you love me!?

Will you love me forever!?

Let me sleep on it

Baby, baby let me sleep on it

Let me sleep on it

And I'll give you an answer in the morning

Let me sleep on it

Baby, baby let me sleep on it

Let me sleep on it

And I'll give you an answer in the morning

Let me sleep on it

I gotta know right now

Do you love me?

Will you love me forever?

Do you need me?

Will you never leave me?

Will you make me so happy for the rest of my life?

Will you take me away and will you make me your wife?

I gotta know right now!

Before we go any further

Do you love me?

And will you love me forever?

Let me sleep on it

Baby, baby let me sleep on it

Let me sleep on it

And I'll give you an answer in the morning

Let me sleep on it

Will you love me forever?

Let me sleep on it

Will you love me forever!!!!

Na na na na I'll tell you in the morning

I couldn't take it any longer

Lord I was crazed

And when the feeling came upon me

Like a tidal wave

I started swearing to my God and on my mother's grave

That I would love you to the end of time

I swore that I would love you to the end of time!

So now I'm praying for the end of time

To hurry up and arrive

'Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you

I don't think that I can really survive

I'll never break my promise or forget my vow

But God only knows what I can do right now

I'm praying for the end of time

It's all that I can do do dooooo

Praying for the end of time, so I can end my life with you!!

It was long ago and it was far away

And it was so much better that it is today

Glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife

It never felt so good it never felt so right

Glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife

It was long ago and it was far away

And it was so much better that it is today

It was long ago and it was far away

And it was so much better that it is today

Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, and ends with a knife in your back.

LOL! I love "Whale of a Tale"! Another good sea-song is "Mingulay Boat Song" by the Corsairs... then for you lovers of classic rock, Styx "come Sail Away" is a fine choice...

I love this one, because it's so silly. And remember, it's Scottish, so it's "truewsers", not "trowsers"! -

Donald, Where's Your Trousers?

I just got in from the Isle of Skye,

I'm not very big and I'm awfully shy.

The ladies shout as I go by

"Donald where's your trousers?"

Chorus:

Let the winds blow high,

Let the winds blow low,

Down the street in my kilt I go.

And all the ladies say "Hello!

Donald where's your trousers?"

2. A lady took me to a ball,

And it was slippery in the hall.

I was afraid that I would fall

'Cause I didn't have on my trousers!

Chorus:

3. They'd like to wed me everyone,

Just let them catch me if they can.

You canna put the brakes on a highland man

Who doesn't like wearing trousers!

Chorus:

4. To wear the kilt is my delight,

It isn't wrong, I know it's right.

The highlanders would get afright

If they saw me in trousers!

Chorus:

5. Well I caught a cold and me nose was raw,

I had no handkerchief at all.

So I hiked up my kilt and I gave it a blow,

Now you can't do that with trousers!

Chorus:

Yo ho ho! Or does nobody actually say that?

And another, with a funky, bluesy riff to it, thanks be to me good mate, Ian MacFarlane...

When will we be married Molly?

When will we be wed?

When will we be

Bedded in the same bed?

When will we be married Molly?

When will we be wed?

When will we be

Bedded in the same bed?

You have your eye on Jimmy,

Long Jimmy Lee...

You have your eye on Jimmy,

Anda fine man he.

You have your eye on Jimmy

But you’d better let him be,

Because when you go, Molly-o

You’ll be gone with me.

When will we be married Molly?

When will we be wed?

When will we be

Bedded in the same bed?

When will we be married Molly?

When will we be wed?

When will we be

Bedded in the same bed?

You have your eye on Johnny,

Thin Johnny Fee.

You have your eye on Johnny

And a fine man he.

You have your eye on Johnny

But you’d better let him be,

Because when you go, Molly-o

You’ll be gone with me.

When will we be married Molly?

When will we be wed?

When will we be

Bedded in the same bed?

When will we be married Molly?

When will we be wed?

When will we be

Bedded in the same bed?

I made a black bow

For your pretty head,

When will we be married Molly?

When will we be wed?

I made a black bow

For your bonny head!

When will we be married Molly?

When will we be wed?

When will we be

Bedded in the same bed?

When will we be married Molly?

When will we be wed?

When will we be

Bedded in the same bed?

Yo ho ho! Or does nobody actually say that?

If you enjoyed those, you'll love this one -

The Crafty Maid

Come listen awhile and I'll sing you a song,

Of three merry gentlemen riding along.

They saw a fair maid and to her did say

"We're afraid this cold morning will do you some harm."

"Oh no, kind sir, you are vastly mistaken,

To think this cold morning could do me some harm.

There's one thing I crave, and it lies twixt your legs,

If you'll give me that, it will keep me warm."

"My dear, if you crave it, well then you shall have it,

If you'll come with me under yonder green tree.

And since you do crave it, my dear you shall have it,

I make these men witness I'll give it to thee."

So the gentleman 'lighted, and straight-way she mounted,

And staring the gentleman hard in the face,

Said, "You knew not my meaning,

you wrong understood me!"

And away she went galloping down the long lane.

"Oh gentlemen! Lend me one of your horses!

That I might ride after her down the long lane

When I overtake her, I warrant I'll make her

Return to me my own horse again!"

But as soon as the maid she saw him a'coming,

She instantly then took her pistol in hand,

Saying "Doubt not my skill, it is you I would kill,

I will have you stand back or you are a dead man."

"Oh why do you spend your time here in talking?

Why do you spend your time here in vain?

Just give her a guinea, it's what she deserves,

And I warrant she'll give you your horse back again."

"Oh no, kind sir, you are vastly mistaken!

If it is his loss, well it is my gain!

And you were the witness that he'd give it to me."

And away she went galloping down the long lane.

Yo ho ho! Or does nobody actually say that?

The great selkie

HE GREAT SELKIE Words traditional

In Norway there dwelt a maid,

"By'loo my baby," she begins,

Saying "Little know I my baby's father,

Or if land or see he's living in."

Then there arose at her bed's foot

A grumley ghaist, I'm sure was he,

Saying "Here am I, thy baby's father,

Although that I'm not comely."

"I am a man upon the land

And I am a selkie in the sea.

And when I am in my own country

My dwelling is Shule Skerry."

Then he's taken out a purse of gold

And he has put it upon her knee,

Saying "Give to me my little wee son,

And take thee up thy nurse's fee."

And it shall come to pass on a summer's day,

When the sun shines bright on every stone,

That I shall take out my little wee son

And teach him for to swim in the foam."

"And you shall marry a gunner good,

And a proud young gunner I'm sure he'll be,

And he'll go out on a fine May morning

And kill both my young son and me."

And lo, she did marry a gunner good,

And a fine young gunner I'm sure was he,

And ther very first shot that he did shoot

It killed both the son and the Great Selkie

In Norway there dwelt a maid,

"By'loo my baby," she begins,

Saying "Little know I my baby's father,

Or if land or sea he's living in."

But why is the rum gone?

Save a horse ride a cowboy!

Take me away and take me farther, suround me now and hold me like holy

My toes are getting pruney

Also my head is round that window is square....

My name is Micheal J Kabous and i eat babies!

Your toast has been burned and no amount of scraping will remove the black stuff

I always Like this one

The Sailor's Prayer

Though my sails be torn and tattered

and my mast be turned about

let the night wind chill me to my very soul

though the spray might sting my eyes

and the stars no light provide

give me just another morning light to hold

Chorus:

I will not lie me down

this rain a ragin'

I will not lie me down

in such a storm

and if this night be unblessed

I shall not take my rest

till I reach another shore.

And though the only water left

is but salt to wound my thirst

I will drink the rain that falls so steady down

and though night blindness be my gift

and there be thieves upon my drift

I will thank the fog that shelters me along

Chorus:

And though my mates be drained and weary

and believe their hopes are lost

there's no need for their bones on that blackened bottom

and though death just off the bow

we will not answer to him now

he shall stand to face the morning light without us.

Chorus (twice)

I would sing it to myself, and anyone else who wanted to hear while I was in Boot Camp.

The pirate song:

My boat’s by the tower and my bark’s on the bay

And both must be gone at the dawn of the day

The moon’s in her shroud and to light thee afar

On the deck of the daring’s a love-lighted star.

Refrein:

So wake lady wake, I am waiting for thee

on this night or never my bride thou shalt be. 2x

Forgive my rough mood unaccustumed to sue

I woo not perhaps as your landlubbers do

My voice is attuned to the sound of the gun

That startles the deep when the combat’s begun.

Refrein 2x

The Frenchman and Don will flee from our path

And the Englishman cower below at our wrath

And our sails shall be gilt in the gold of the day

And the sea robins sings as we roll on our way

Refrein 2x

A hundred shall serve in the best of the brave

And the chief of a thousand shall kneel as thy slave

And thou shalt reign queen and the empire shall last

Till the black flag by inches is torn from the mast.

Refrein 2x

So farewell to those distant waters, farewell to the ice and the storms,

farewell to the nights in the Minches, we’re ashore and will never return.

for now that the fishing has ended, now that the boats have all gone,

now that the quays are deserted, there is only an echoing song.

Refrein

You can get clips of the pirate choir i love to listen to, they're pretty good.
