Rumba Rue Posted May 20, 2005 Posted May 20, 2005 I have a 'flag' too. Unfortunately it's packed away and I don't feel like digging it out. I'll have it up at Tall Ships in Sept. at Dana Pt., and I'll take a pic of it then. Rumba Rue **Always expect the unexpected**
William Brand Posted May 20, 2005 Author Posted May 20, 2005 Well...an artist like me is never truly finished designing anything, but here are both of my Jolly Rogers. At least until I change them again. I'm such a damn perfectionist.

Capn_Enigma Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 Hoisting my Jolly Roger over our boarding school dorm in 1983 Boarding School?!? Be that a school for young pirates to learn their trade?!? LOL! That pun was completely unintended, but ye arrr right, of course! Young pirates, we were, and boarding, we did! "The floggings will continue until morale improves!"
William Brand Posted May 21, 2005 Author Posted May 21, 2005 Thanks for the compliments. I also like the crossed pistols best, but you can never have too many jacks. Aye.
lorien_stormfeather Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 Nay .. I vote fer the bi-color w/ the choppers. One o me favorite buckos has a blade like that.... Question fer ye all. How many of you actually applique and stich it together? Or are ye using paint? I found me a nice piece of black linen while thrifty shoppin' today- I think it may have been a tablecloth.... feelin' like I may have to sew somethin' ... but paint seems so immediately gratifying... What kind works best on a loose weave fabric? House paint?

I'm going to cover a wall with it.
lorien_stormfeather Posted May 22, 2005 Posted May 22, 2005 Can anybody suggest the paint they've used? I'm thinking it need be something like latex house paint to stand up to the weather and not all soak into the black fabric.
Charity Posted May 22, 2005 Posted May 22, 2005 WOW Captain Enigma's flag is great too I love those flags, maybe i should make one sometimes for the trip i hope to take in 2007 to the USA, i'll somehow have to tie it to the plane i'm coming in so you all know which it is i'm on

I'm thinking it need be something like latex house paint to stand up to the weather and not all soak into the black fabric. I've used a simple outdoor latex paint before on a heavy canvas and it stood up to the rain. Still, I don't know how well that would weather over time and it isn't terribly authentic.
Patrick Hand Posted May 22, 2005 Posted May 22, 2005 lorien_stormfeather, if you have a chunka black cloth, you might be better off sewing it..... paint gets heavy.........
William Brand Posted May 22, 2005 Author Posted May 22, 2005 lorien_stormfeather, if you have a chunka black cloth, you might be better off sewing it..... paint gets heavy......... Yes. Patrick is right. That's the other thing about paint. It won't FLAP. Banner's and wall hangings should be painted. Of course if it is a little white paint on a black field it isn't so bad, but cloth whips around in a high wind and gives you that all important satisfying flutter.
Pew Posted May 23, 2005 Posted May 23, 2005 'Tis beautiful, good Mr. William. William Brand Posted May 23, 2005 Author Posted May 23, 2005 You are most welcome, Cap'n. Most welcome, indeed. But please leave the drinks one at a time.
morgan_thelimey_grimmway Posted May 27, 2005 Posted May 27, 2005 I still wonder to this day why the Limeys didn't challenge us! Ahhhh... not all of us Limeys are stiffs. ^_~ ::grin:: "Work is the curse of the drinking classes."
morgan_thelimey_grimmway Posted May 27, 2005 Posted May 27, 2005 Oh wow.. I should have looked at how many pages are here. Hahahahhaha... I just replied to a post from the first page. Oops. I Am Smrt! "Work is the curse of the drinking classes."
Capn_Enigma Posted May 27, 2005 Posted May 27, 2005 Ahhhh... not all of us Limeys are stiffs. ^_~ ::grin:: LOL! No disrespect intended, but considered the massive Gibraltar force and the really huge Jolly Roger, they shoulda called us at least via radio and asked us if everything was shipshape! Cire Posted May 29, 2005 Posted May 29, 2005 This be my flag design... just needs to make it an actuality... Because the world does revolve around me, and the universe is geocentric....
Patrick Hand Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 Cire..... the image didn't post...... unless you want your flag to be a banner add for a service provider........ http://www.angelfire.com/goth/elven-song/pirateflag.jpg don't think it will post..... but maybe worth a try...............
Capn_Enigma Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 Cire..... the image didn't post...... unless you want your flag to be a banner add for a service provider........ Hey Patrick, ye ne'er heard of the Crimson Permanent Assurance? They got a decent flag, though: "The floggings will continue until morale improves!"
