Mission
I was in Las Vegas in November and made it a point to check out the Treasure Island casino. They had this free show in front of the casino that was pretty cool. It involved a moving ship, pyrotechnics and a bunch of lusty guys hungering for a crew of piratess "sirens" on another ship. Even more amazing...it was about 35º and the guys on the moving pirate ship had the unenviable task of jumping into the water and swimming about 30 yards or so to the Siren Ship. And then they got out of the water and had to do their act soaking wet! (I hope they're paid well...) Of course, the casino was the same old, same old (I don't gamble so casinos all seem to look the same to me), but I bought a really cool T-shirt. I know this will really shock everyone - it was a skeleton in raggedy pirate togs complete with shoulder parrot holding a sword in one hand and a royal flush in the other. If you're ever in Vegas, it's definitely worth a looksee. Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?" John: "I don't know." Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."

CaptainCiaran
When yer a sprog, lassie or laddie ye go to Disney World/Disneyland. When yer a big person ye go to Las Vegas. I've been twice now. The pirate show at Treasure Island was quite entertaining, especially when the ship sinks. I thought that was pretty darn amazing. All that was lacking was Celine Dion standing on its deck singing that Titantic theme song. I wonder if one of the most important steps on our journey is the one in which we throw away the map. -- Loreena McKennitt My fathers knew of wind and tide, and my blood is maritime. -- Stan Rogers I don't pretend to be captain weird. Rogue Mermaid
I saw the show last July (actually stayed at Excaliber). It was entertaining, especially if you could get a good seat at the outdoor bar. The gift shop was pretty cool too. I got a nice glass mug that looks like there is a mermaid swimming through it. Rumba Rue
I'll be in Vegas in June at the TI. I was in Vegas last August (stayed at the Luxor) and of course had to check out TI. I was thoroughly dismayed at only one gift shop in the whole place sold pirate stuff. In fact pirate themed things weren't even seen anywhere else. I did pick up some cute pirate boxer shorts and a cute top to wear for bedtime. I don't gamble except for an occassional slot machine to use up coin. I didn't get to see the outside show. I've heard some really dislike it, others seem to like it. So when I go this summer I will make a point of watching it. Anyone else seen the show there? Thoughts on it? Any chance any of you might be in Vegas mid June? Rumba Rue ** **
Mission
I was thoroughly dismayed at only one gift shop in the whole place sold pirate stuff. In fact pirate themed things weren't even seen anywhere else. Yeah, I wondered about that too. At least they had the one gift shop. (Expensive place, though. One T was worth adding to my collection, but there were two others I liked that I just couldn't see spending the money on.) The show is typical Vegas glitz, fluff and skin. The, er, "storyline" was just plain silly, but it was neat to see a pirate show complete with ships, faux cannon fire and pirate costumes. (It's fun and it's free. How can you argue with that? Well, maybe if you're one of those folks who hang in Captain Twill and worry that your breeches are not made of true-to-period cotton. It wasn't anything close to being true to the period... ) Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?" Patrick Hand
Well, maybe if you're one of those folks who hang in Captain Twill and worry that your breeches are not made of true-to-period cotton. It wasn't anything close to being true to the period... You forgot the part about them being realy baggy in the butt........ And it's linen... not cotton...... Rogue Mermaid
Now, now let's be nice. Besides...those actors weren't wearing enough clothes to argue if they were period or not!
Patrick Hand
I haven't been to Vegas sence they changed TI..... Jonny Ardan
i was in vegas this past summer for a wedding of a cousin. (not the typical "let's run off to vegas," they actually live there) and i got to see the show. twice in fact. first from far away back where the men's ship starts, and the second from right up close where i actually got hit by a splash of water. good show. not period, and not plausible. but good show. loved the sinking ship and the cannon fire! even got my 84 year old grandmother to stand and watch it. i even got to witness my very lutheran, very conservative, very moral grandmother play the slot machines and actually win 300 dollars! was a trip to say the least! TabithaAnne
I agree with Ace. The old show was much better. If I remember correctly it was pirates on the "Sirens" ship and then the English on the other ship that came around the front of the building. It was truly a sight to see. Oh and there was no singing if my memory serves me. Men are like a deck of cards - You need a heart to love them, a diamond to marry them, a club to beat them and a spade to bury the bastards. julius27
I'm goin' the first week o' May. Stayin' at the Stratosphere an' I plan ta ride the 'coaster on it, though not any o' the other rides. I don't care fer the straight up an' down things or the side ta side things an' I absolutely hate those free turnin' things like the octopuss. I'll be seein' the show at TI, an' plan ta go up an' down the strip at least once. I wish I had enough disposable income ta play Texas Hold 'em, but even in a low game, it ain't a good idea ta come in with less than $500. I read that in a book, but I also play fer fun (bettin' imaginary money), an' the advice seems pretty sound. Me wife an' I actually plan ta spend most o' the week out o' town at places like Death Valley, South Rim Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon (edited to be spelled correctly, like p'y'racy pub ), Zion, etc. I am Julius Aurelius, future ruler of the universe. Kneel quickly, for I have many feeble minds to overcome.

Rumba Rue
Congradulations on your long marriage! I'm afraid the longest for me was the last one, 10 years. I have no intention of getting married again, unless there's a lottery win in the household. Rumba ** **
