Charity Posted March 14, 2005 Posted March 14, 2005 I came across this, man oh man isn't that a load of beauty! Atlantic's top ten Tallships I can't wait for Sail Amsterdam, this year there's going to be 20 Tallships and 500 historical steam and sailing boats. This one particular Dutch one i love, it's there along with other Dutch ships under the motto "Hollands Glory" Thalassa Sorry, just in Dutch but click on the pics to get to a magnificiant gallery
CaptainCiaran Posted March 14, 2005 Posted March 14, 2005 Great list, Charity! Thank ye fer posting it. I was happy to see a favourite of me own -- The Bluenose II, under the Nova Scotian section. Have seen that sleek vessel twice now in Lunenburg, NS. I wonder if one of the most important steps on our journey is the one in which we throw away the map. -- Loreena McKennitt My fathers knew of wind and tide, and my blood is maritime. -- Stan Rogers I don't pretend to be captain weird. I just do what I do. -- Johnny Depp

Capt Grey Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 Moving this to Rabble Rousing, folks. Captain, we always knew you were a whoopsie. Rumors of my death are entirely premature.
the Royaliste Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 Although a wee bit 'old', (the Rose is still a 'Canadian' on this list), some nice ones, but...they also forgot The Oldest, Baddest of All or at least in my humble opinion.......
Cap'n Pete Straw Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 Got photos of the Constitution a couple years ago as it sailed back into Boston Harbor. Staked out a sweet spot at the very bow of the destroyer moored next door, and emptied a few rolls of film as she sailed back in. Most unbelievable photos. "He's a Pirate dancer, He dances for money, Any old dollar will do... "He's a pirate dancer, His dances are funny... 'Cuz he's only got one shoe! Ahhrrr!"
Coastie04 Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 but...they also forgot The Oldest, Baddest of All or at least in my humble opinion....... And at 220 feet, I believe she holds the record for tallest mast height in the world. Being aloft on Eagle a few years back pulling into Boston, I must assert that 220 feet is MUCH greater than 147' Coastie She was bigger and faster when under full sail With a gale on the beam and the seas o'er the rail
William Brand Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 My personal favorite is this little beauty... ...the Nina. The sailors who sailed on this little chunk of wood across the unknown were as crazy and brave as the best of them. I sure wish I had been on that first trip.
