Coastie04
There's always the classic "Shanties from the Seven Seas" by Stan Hugill. I also have a fun one by Douglas Morgan called "What Do You Do With a Drunken Sailor?" I love the quote on the cover: "Now seamen who spent their time in cargo-carrying sailing ships never heard a decent shanty; the words which sailor John put to them when unrestrained were the veriest of filth." -Master Mariner W. B. Whall There's also a few websites out there including the following: http://www.chivalry.com/cantaria/lists/alpha.html http://www.contemplator.com/sea/ http://shanty.rendance.org/ Hope this helps. Raginscotsman
Thank you all for the help, I do have the book by Stan Hugill, it is very informative, but, it's light on lyric. Those websites will be a big help, thanks Coastie.
Trapper
Stan's got several different shanty books out there, by the way. Some with more lyrics than others. William and Felicia's website www.pintndale.com, has a lot of lyrics, as does the Mudcat Cafe: http://www.mudcat.org/ If you email me your address offlist, I can send you a copy of "To Make the Welkin Ring", a book that we put together many, many years ago, full of lyrics. Rumba Rue
There's a duo here in S. California that I occassionally play guitar with, Mallory and McCall. They've got a great songbook out, "Mallory and McCall's Irish Pub Songbook". Lots of good shanties in it. You can get it from: Mel Bay Publications, Inc. , #4 Industrial Drive, Pacific, MO. 63069-0066, 1-800- 8-Mel Bay, or they have a website (I haven't been to it), www.melbay.com, email: email@melbay.com Also, Christine Lampe who runs No Quarter Given has a songbook out with shanties. Just check out the site at www.noquartergiven.net Hope this info might be of some help to you. Rumba Rue ** **
