Caine
Hey there mates, I'm looking for a good Jack Sparrow coat. I've seen several, but they are either innacurate, expensive or both... I used to see a good on on eBay for only 75 bucks, but havent seen it in a long time, and I remember it came in black or brown. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance! HarborMaster
Thats a tough one., If you found a coat in a black or brown it was already innaccurate., Sparrows was a dirty blue.., also there were 7 buttons per side on the tail alone for trim...., my own coat with 44 buttons and shipping is 75.00 right there without the coat!!! A good one will cost more than 75.00 I have 3 coats all a little differant 2 black coats ( a Poly/Cotton non shrinking tough material and the other a denim) And a blue one ( Heavy upolstery Velvet with lots of trim HUGE cuffs and Gore) My experience is between 220.00 and 350.00 I guess it depends on what you really want.,Consider this My Velvet is Hot to wear., the denim will fade and the poly/cotton is a little limp.., more often than not I find myself taking the coat off ...., a good pair of pants a shirt sash and a great hat will go a long way!!! There are good patterns from Simplicity that are close and can be modified from there. Finding someone to make it for you with modifications may be the answer. I found that you need to add lots of gore (extra material in the lower rear) to get the swagger you want...to be sparrow accurate...., as well as bigger cuffs than most want to make.., but these things help to animate you into a character Goodluck HarborMaster I am not Lost .,I am Exploring. Red-Handed Jill
Simplicity has a pattern for the Jack Sparrow coat. It's in this thread: HERE It's an unlined coat, so depending on what fabric you make it out of, it won't be too heavy. Hemp or a heavier linen blend would work, but you'll need to use heavyweight interfacing on the cuffs, so they won't be too limp. I just put one together and it didn't take that long at all. HarborMaster
Here is a few pics I just took real quik in the back yard to get you an idea of the differant things you can alter on your pattern..., sorry for the dark pics. If you make your own coat and modify it to your liking youll probably be better off. You can get everything to fit that way. This is my interpretation of my "Stolen govenors coat" I can use for dinner..,My black coats are for more gettin dirty an havin' fun., again its what you want.., this one has lots of swagger when you walk and big time cuffs.
