Mr_Scabbs Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 Arrr... I was minding my own business the other day, when I started singing the lyrics to R.E.M.'s "Stand" by accident. Worried that I was being non pirate-like (because pirates don't usually sing 80s pop songs), I started to examine the lyrics carefully. What I discovered astounded me: "Stand in the place where you live Now face North Think about direction? Wonder why you haven't before If you are confused check with the sun Carry a compass to help you along." If that's not sheer pirate code, then I don't know what is! Perhaps these are the introductory directions to a hidden treasure Michael Stipe burried somewhere in between his home and where he works? Who knows? But all of this made me wonder if there are other famous musicians out there, who are sending us pirate codes and messages? "I like nachos. Mermaid nachos." Captain_MacNamara Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 there's far too much thought been put into that... I'll quote a friend of mine... "You need to find yourself a girl, mate..." Captain of the Iron Lotus It is the angle that holds the rope, not the size of the hole.
piratelassie Posted June 12, 2004 Posted June 12, 2004 there's far too much thought been put into that... I'll quote a friend of mine..."You need to find yourself a girl, mate..." nice one. But still, there be a valid point about tha codes wi' in song lyrics...
Captain Scurvy Dog Posted June 19, 2004 Posted June 19, 2004 directions to a hidden treasure... SILENCE YER TONGUE, LAD! (whispers) talk of hidden treasure amongst this many pyrates can proove fatal... now, let us have a drink & become good mates...
PyratePhil Posted June 19, 2004 Posted June 19, 2004 Not quite codes, but there be many songs what mention pyrate-like things... One o' me faves be an ol' Jethro Tull tune..."Aqualung"...when I had's a few rums in me, I'd be hearin' (an' singin')... "Sittin' in a crow's nest Eyin' merchant ships with...bad intent" ...Qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum... ~ Vegetius
Capt DaggezEber Posted June 27, 2004 Posted June 27, 2004 If'n ye ever want to know if it is a pirate song, try drinking a bottle of rum, gather 4 mates and a squeeze box . If'n it still sound good, make it a crew song. Life is only for the one that is not afraid to die.
