Mary Diamond Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 Ahoy, all you tabletop gaming enthusiasts! Allow me to draw your attention to a fine game set in our wonderful Golden Age of Pyracy. https://www.firelockgames.com/bloodandplunder/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/BloodandPlunder Note these are the same fine folks that are bringing Port Royal to the table via KickStarter - see my other post noted below. Oooh, shiny!
michaelsbagley Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 I second the recommendation. I've been a player of this company's first pirate miniature game for years now, it's more of a large skirmish style game (20-30+ figures per side, although somwhat scalable).... I am even more excited about the new game than I was the original... having a small "band" size game (4 to 7 figures per side in an average game) is a lot more exciting (and likely a better entry point into the larger skirmish game, for those inclined). I too was lucky enough to squeeze in a demo at Adepticon, and it was great, and fast playing.
Stynky Tudor Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 This looks very cool...something else for me to spend money on.
Pyrate Captain Mick Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 They are excellent rules. I had a chance to play-test one of Firelock's concept games of the Napoleonic period at Gencon. As far as I could tell trying to weave between 80,000 participants, it was one of only a handful of historical games. Remembering back to when my new bride and I slept on the floor of Horticultural Hall in Lake Geneva well over 50 years ago, then, almost all games were historical, the hobby has morphed heavily. The nice thing about Blood and Plunder is that you can dust off your Old Glory pirates and use them, although re-basing to a 20mm washer might be necessary. It is a complete system with room for expansion. Firelock sells an abundance of ships, figures, game cards and dice, etc. However, on the cheap, you can use what you have and a simple deck of playing cards will work. D10's D6's and anything you want for tokens work just fine, but their product line really enhances the game. I am sincerely hoping if and when thy release Napoleonic rules it enables the play of Jean Lafitte. I always wanted to play the scenario of the Rescue of Bonaparte. Break yer mast and stays, Cap'n Mick
Patrick Hand Posted January 26 Posted January 26 I just discovered these rules... I found a pyrated PDF on-line, checked it out and promptly ordered a legitimate copy... The drawings and pictures of the minis are worth the price of the rule book. And the Rules look good. I haven't been doing any Pyrate stuff in forever, (I've been 3d sculpting minis for other RPG games, like Gamma World) So I'm going to sculpt some and 3D print and paint them for a Blood and Plunder game. I was also working on a Gamma World game on Foundry VTT, and now that I sorta know how to set it up, I've started to set-up a Blood and Plunder game that I can invite others to play a game on-line... More about that once I'm farther along....
michaelsbagley Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Dude, as an avid miniature painter, Blood & Plunder player, and soon to be "Port Royal" player, I'd be extremely interested in any models you produce. Do you sell through MyMiniFactory or elsewhere? (For reference "Port Royal" is supposed to be the pirate version of Mordheim, so Firelck games warband rules to the larger force rules B&P are).

But… won’t you consider coming out to join us again? You are missed! Oooh, shiny!
Patrick Hand Posted January 26 Posted January 26 "Do you sell through MyMiniFactory or elsewhere?" I give away the .stl files for 3D printing on Thingiverse... Just search for 'designerpatt" Right now most of the minis are Sci/fi or Gamma World. But I have half a Pyrete sculpted in Blender so-far...(I'll post a picture when I'm farther along with it...) Mary Diamond There isn't much Pyrate stuff going on localy... When I was in "Tales of the Seven Seas" they did a lot of stuff outta the SF Bay Area... So setting up a Foundry VTT game would allow me to kinda-sorta keep in touch with Pyrate goings-on....
Patrick Hand Posted January 27 Posted January 27 (edited) This is a "base" figure that I'm working on in Blender, it isn't rigged yet (making it poseable, so it's still in a "T" pose but I'll fix that later) and I have to add more to it, but this is as far as I've gotten on this one.... Mary Diamond Posted January 30 Author Posted January 30 Oooh, I love it! Is this entirely your creation? Oooh, shiny!
Patrick Hand Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Aaaargh... my hard-copy of the Blood and Plunder rules arrived today... And I've been sculpting minis and working on stuff for Foundry VTT (Virtual Table Top) game... I have the unit card template sorta done for Foundry VTT. I have some Pirate and Colonial icons that I could use, but they are out of period and not as cool as what I'm planning on drawing … And I'm doing some research for a good map. When I have that done, I'll look for some Pyrates wot wanna play an on-line game of Blood and Plunder.
Patrick Hand Posted January 31 Posted January 31 The really cool thing about “Blood and Plunder” is that it is the time period I was working on for the “Buccaneer Project”'. And it has a lot of good information that is happily all in one place. Now I'm re-reading Exquemelin's “Buccaneers of America” for interesting details to add to the game...
Patrick Hand Posted February 15 Posted February 15 (edited) I made some icons for a VTT Blood and Plunder Game on Foundry. I have the “stat/character cards” already made in Foundry, I still have to finish drawing the map, and look-up how to attach icons to movable objects (boats and ships). A minor problem with the icons is that all the “pieces/figures” will be almost all the same. There wont be a different icon for every Pyrate or the Spanish figure on the (VR) table. I might make some more icons, so for example, Freebooters would look different than Sea Dogs...These would be about an inch tall in Foundry.... Edited February 15 by Patrick Hand

Huh, I don’t know how I missed this post! Michael Bagley, Jeff Radaj - speak up! I would like to try, if there is room. Oooh, shiny!
Patrick Hand Posted February 15 Posted February 15 I'm kinda thinking of starting with 100 points for both the Pyrates and the Spanish... That way it won't take too long for the first game, and I can make any changes/fix stuff if needed for later games. I can make both sides with the 100 points for the first game, or if someone wants to set-up their side, We can do it that way. If more than two people want to play, then we can split up the sides and let each player have part of the Army.
Patrick Hand Posted Monday at 03:48 PM Posted Monday at 03:48 PM I have to test it, but I found out how to set-up and deal a hand of cards in Foundry VTT. Each player can see their hand, but not the other players hand. And then the players can select which card from their hand they want to play for Movement in Blood & Plunder....
Mary Diamond Posted Monday at 08:01 PM Author Posted Monday at 08:01 PM Excellent! You are miles ahead of myself, still slowly painting… Oooh, shiny!
madPete Posted Wednesday at 02:42 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:42 AM I'm really not a gamer, but I do like painting miniatures. So I popped for these yesterday... Aye... Plunder Awaits!
