These really are the bees knees for traveling. They are lightweight, absorbant and period!

What are they? a lightweight linen towel in sizes from a handtowel up to a full beach towel size. Best in subdued colors or colors that are at least represented in the era

Who wants a modern terrycloth towel hanging out to dry on their tent line after spending the effort on kit and so forth?

William sent me a small beige one that is so perfect for traveling.  I found the brighter colors at goodwill, but I'm sure they will fade a bit.

oh, and some bio-degradable soap/shampoo that we used at Key West with the makeshift showers...

If you are lucky enough to see linen tow fabric, snatch it up. I was lucky to obtain some, and it is my favorite for toweling fabric. It is coarsely woven, like burlap, but a heavier weight.

I actually just picked something similar up myself! Labeled "coarse linen" and for $6 yard. Thought it might end up being too rough but the washed sample they had was not too bad, and for the cost of a coffee, it was worth the attempt IMHO....glad someone has some experience and the same thoughts!!

Purchased ages ago, from Period Fabric - who is really wonderful to work with.
