Patrick Hand Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 This is kinda cool.... http://www.tickld.com/x/13-complete-soldiers-kits-from-the-armies
Capt. Bo of the WTF co. Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Very cool! I am like the author and noticed how every kit has a spoon in it! Also, the early ones all have fire-steels, one of which is a design I last made before giving up the forge. Thanks for posting this , I really enjoyed looking at all the details. Bo
Guest Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Wouldn't something like that make a great coffee table picture book? With more photos and a description of the equipment and what was carried.
William Brand Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 I completely agree. It would be a fun visual companion to any historians table.
Capt. Bo of the WTF co. Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Yes it would! I'd buy one for sure. Bo

madPete Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 Patricks original link is broken, not sure if this is the same set... https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2730922/Journey-British-wars-Images-reveal-soldiers-kit-changed-Hastings-1066-Battle-Waterloo-1814.html Aye... Plunder Awaits!
William Brand Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 From Cran Ohlandt's 'Merchant Seaman's Effects' album...
Stynky Tudor Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 Is it my imagination or has the internet gotten better as a reference? Here's a couple videos covering similarly. 17th Century Highlander Equipment, Full Rundown - Clothing, Tools, Pack Fandabi Dozi The Quintessential Trekking Kit Towsends
Mary Diamond Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 I would agree, having seen the above videos previously- it seems there are more well researched and presented kits out there to refer to. Oooh, shiny!
madPete Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 People had a lot more time during Covid to research, since we couldnt do much else... From what I saw in England you couldnt even ride/hike outside on the trails during Covid... Aye... Plunder Awaits!
michaelsbagley Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 The solier's kit one is great.... there are pieces some may quibble about, but the overall impressions are good. The Scottish highland video.... It's not an era or portrayal that falls within my realm of knowledge, but I have seen quite a bit of debate regarding many of the details in that one. The "Quintessential Trekking" video... well, I haven't even watched that one yet. I love how approachable the Townsend videos are, and how good much of there information is, but I have yet to see one video from them that couldn't be debated to some degree.... even by me, who is admittedly not a specialist in later 18th and early 19th century history and gear. That said, some rather random pieces of luck have it that I will be able to post my own version of the 1690-1710 soldiers gear collection, hopefully within the next month or two (assuming I show any sort of discipline completing the last couple of details I need). But yeah, the internet has become a much better place for good information.... but it has made it that much more challenging, because much of the "good" has elements contained that are "questionable", so dubious information has become that much more difficult to filter. That caveat aside, it's nice to see the general level of the hobby improve, even if certain elements that maybe shouldn;t have, are becoming more mainstays.
