madPete
I finished this project in Sept for the Utah pirate fest. I had pictures start to finish so thought people might be interested here. roughly based on the pattern here: http://www.hmsrichmond.org/hamock.htm https://picasaweb.google.com/PeterChaaps/HammockProject?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCKyTm-3dgvvGuwE&feat=directlink mP Edited December 26, 2013 by madPete Aye... William Brand
You did amazing work figuring out all the finer details off the diagram. Add in a good book, a tropical breeze and the hammock is perfect. What was your total yardage and cloth weight?
madPete
14 oz canvas approx 36 by 84. I think I bought 3 yards of 45 inch wide material. it was 100% hemp linen canvas, that was offered with irregularities. my piece was near perfect. Aye... Plunder Awaits! madPete
this is where I got it. but the the piece I bought was advertised with flaws for much cheaper... and the width was 57" - I do have enough leftover for a seabag or two. http://www.hemptraders.com/product-p/ct-c14.htm Aye... IT will give other an idea of what they can do with the same materials. Thanks for the information.
LordWilson
What size and type of line did you use for the clews?
madPete
What size and type of line did you use for the clews? I used 3/8 or 5/16 hemp line. about 125 ft of it. hemp is much softer than what is typically available at home improvement stores and much more expensive but I wouldn't use anything else after this experience. mP Aye... William Brand
All of the handmade hammocks that I've seen are fantastic. It's a great addition to kit of any kind. Honestly, even if you never slept in it, it's a great show piece and perfect for keeping extra blankets and sundries off of the ground. Not that I'm suggesting one go to all of the trouble and not sleep in it, but they just look that good.
