Dorian Lasseter
Aye Ladds n' Lassies, Wot would ye grab up ta defend yerself in a brawl? Say iffn' ye was caught wi'out yer cutlass? There is a section in 'Borders Away' (the book, not the topic) about this. Belaying pins are a favorite... Truly, D. Lasseter Captain, The Lucy Propria Virtute Audax --- In Hoc Signo Vinces Ni Feidir An Dubh A Chur Ina Bhan Air "If I whet my glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me." Deuteronomy 32:41 Envy and its evil twin - It crept in bed with slander - Idiots they gave advice - But Sloth it gave no answer - Anger kills the human soul - With butter tales of Lust - While Pavlov's Dogs keep chewin' - On the legs they never trust... Maraudin Sparky
Hmm, well, me knife would be damn handy - rope could be useful as well, not only to act as a shield if wrapped around me arm, but also as a whip (especially if it has a nice weighted monkeys fist to knock into someones head). But aye, I guess a belayin pin as well would be useful. You never know what is enough unless you know what is more than enough. Kestrel
That depends - are ye in a pub or onboard yer ship? Plenty of environmental weaponry either place, y'know...Bar stools are handy, and if ye smarsh them, ye can always use a leg as a club. Rope, belaying pins - all good! capnwilliam
Rope is not likely to knock anyone out; not quickly enough. A knife is harder to use than most people think. Belaying pin is good. But if it's a fight to the death yer talkin' about, Dorian - and I reckon ye are, because ye mentioned cutlass - my favorite weapon at close quarters would be a boarding axe or tomahawk. Capt. endkaos
My personal favorite is to grab them by the hair and slam them into anything hard. If nothing available, my knee has been known to do in a pinch. Especially if they be looking a me "assests" on the way down. ~Tori Like any unmanned ship, a novice sailor will eventually steer into the wind and then in circles.
