Matty Bottles Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Ivan, could you please post some close-ups of the shirt alone? Those blue checks became something of a quixotic quest for me a few years ago, and though I have since found material that satisfies my standards, I am always interested in how other people interpret it. "The time was when ships passing one another at sea backed their topsails and had a 'gam,' and on parting fired guns; but those good old days have gone. People have hardly time nowadays to speak even on the broad ocean, where news is news, and as for a salute of guns, they cannot afford the powder. There are no poetry-enshrined freighters on the sea now; it is a prosy life when we have no time to bid one another good morning." - Capt. Joshua Slocum

Swashbuckler 1700 Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 http://www.hermitage...tsar/images.htm There is a picture of Peter's hat. I wonder is it the same than this.... it looks different and darker but I wonder how many hats Peter even had http://www.ivanhenry...age37_177_1.png "I have not yet Begun To Fight!"John Paul Jones
Ivan Henry aka Moose Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 http://www.hermitage...tsar/images.htm There is a picture of Peter's hat. I wonder is it the same than this.... it looks different and darker but I wonder how many hats Peter even had http://www.ivanhenry...age37_177_1.png WOW! Great find! That answers a lot of questions I had - like how do you keep a band or ribbon on one of these. I am not certain that this hat at the Hermitage is any different than the one in the reference I posted. They both are knit, tall and have a brim.
Swashbuckler 1700 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 You're welcome. I am glad to find pictures to people. I actually think it might well the very same hat in those both pictures. The lighting and respective of the first picture are perhaps making it look less higher and lighter-colored than in the later picture. Also I dough that Peter would not have really many sailor hats with him when he returned to Russia, "I have not yet Begun To Fight!"John Paul Jones
Swashbuckler 1700 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 (edited) It seems that Peter had many sailor costumes. at least that outfit with a white jacket, blue breeches and the tan hat and another brown hat and still another suit with a from of smock and breeches http://www.hermitage...AGFILEN&author= This should be that hat so http://www.hermitage...AGFILEN&author= and his other clothes http://www.hermitage...AGFILEN&author= And this is totally different hat. It was my mistake to claim that they were the same so there is two hats not one http://www.hermitage...tsar/images.htm Edited January 2, 2013 by Swashbuckler 1700 "I have not yet Begun To Fight!"John Paul Jones
