Swashbuckler 1700
How old traditions are Bosun's/ sailors whistles? I know that in Nelson's navy they were common but what about e.g. Gaop? I mean whistles like this 19th century one "I have not yet Begun To Fight!"John Paul Jones

Fox
There were several found on the Mary Rose which sank in 1545, and I have references somewhere from slightly earlier in the 16th century. Swashbuckler 1700
There were several found on the Mary Rose which sank in 1545, and I have references somewhere from slightly earlier in the 16th century. So in Gaop and even earlier I could have heard whistling around me aboard ships. Is there any pictures of those early whistles? Captain Jim
Needed information on bosun's whistles, specifically a time and design framework. Came here first and found what I needed but I thought I would add an online museum/blog I found later. http://whistlemuseum.com/2012/03/29/boatswains-call-history-timeline-examples-and-more.aspx My occupational hazard bein' my occupation's just not around...
