William Brand Posted October 19, 2023 Author Posted October 19, 2023 We're chasing multiple venues for next year, such as winter events (indoors) and some living history sites. Everything is in the early stages, so it may be a few weeks before we talk about them. We want to see what's viable before we announce the possibilities. I'll post news as soon as I have it.

Considering October is the start of the Fall/Winter Holiday Seasons - I'd be surprised if we hear anything solid before New Years. Please keep us posted!
William Brand Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 We've got an open invitation to participate and bring our careening camp to Sylvan Beach in upstate New York. It's a grassy stretch of land between the parking and the water right along Oneida Lake. It's about 2 hours from Rochester and sandwiched almost between Syracuse and Rome. It's less immersive in terms of surroundings, but it comes with canvas tents and a handful of lovely smallboats, so we'd be 'on the water' a lot. Plus the town hosts a great many little theme parties, pub events, and a parade, so it'll be festive. We're in early talks and we're weighing this event against a few other things, but I'd love feedback from everyone. More photos...
madPete Posted January 30 Posted January 30 looks like a nice grassy park next to the lake, canvas tents, battle, small period boats, nightlife, Pirates. Pretty convincing! Aye... Plunder Awaits!
Tudor MercWench Smith Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Oh hey! It's only a five hour drive for me! I'd be in!
madPete Posted January 30 Posted January 30 checked flights last night. Ouch. Cheapest I found on Southwest from PHX and SLC was $550-$650 . Most of them are an all day affair with multiple layovers. Aye... Plunder Awaits!

Would suck to have to do a flight immediately followed by 5 hours in the car, but if it's more cost efficent, it's not like I wouldn't be going that way anyway. Would need to leave for airport at 4am in order to arrive in CLE with time to do 5 hour drive. Scheduling a pm flight coming home on monday seems to work ok (with the drive). But overall doesnt really make dollar sense. We'll just have to watch for sales. It is July which is peak travel time Aye... Plunder Awaits!
William Brand Posted January 30 Author Posted January 30 This is just and update for the event site itself. Fires/Cooking: We are allowed to cook in camp, but because this is a public park, we can't make a firepit. We can 'fake' one if we have stones and can make a raised bed with a metal plate...or...we can do braziers. I don't believe there are any permanent, built-in metal cooking stands. Bathrooms: "We get our own dedicated portajohns with combination locks adjacent to camp." Showers: There's also a new building which might have showers, but we don't know if they're private showers or a standard public rinse shower for people in bathing suits.
William Brand Posted February 10 Author Posted February 10 We're in the early stages of planning for the Swanage Pirate Festival in the UK at the end of May in 2026. Start saving that coin.
