Jib Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 During my recent trip to the Dominican Republic I was offered a local drink called "Mama Juana". Gave it a try and found it quiet nice. I guess it has origins back with the native Tanio who made a tea from herbs and tree bark. The Europeans introduced the idea of adding rum, red wine and honey. The locals claim this drink is helpful for lovers. I thought it had a taste similar to Port.
Mission Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Neat. I remember on my first trip to the Caribbean (St. Kitts) they had a drink called Ting with a Sting which was a local Sprite-like beverage with rum mixed into it. This, of course, does not date back, but it's fun to say. Like Mama Juana. (Somehow I doubt the native Tanio called it that, though.) Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?" John: "I don't know." Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."
Jib Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 When first asked if I wanted to try this beverage I thought they had offered me something to smoke...
Littleneckhalfshell Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 "" I guess it has origins back with the native Tanio who made a tea from herbs and tree bark"" Ahh...... maybe you should check and see exactly what the 'herb' was, it might explain the name! No Fear Have Ye of Evil Curses says you... Aye,... Properly Warned Ye Be says I
Jib Posted March 2, 2012 Author Posted March 2, 2012 Good point! I did bring some of the herb and bark home in a bottle. Made it through customs but then again I didn't mention it.
