LauraConklin
Have scoured the internet looking for reasonably priced reproductions of gunner's tools, such as gunner's level, gunner's quadrant, and gunner's calipers. Cannot find them if they are out there. Anybody have some they want to part with, or can anyone recommend a site that may carry them?
landlubbersanonymous
I can't believe none of these hot barreled cannoneers want to brag about their tools. Edited February 12, 2012 by landlubbersanonymous
PoD
I've got a gunners level and gunners calipers in my own collection. I also have a French Sector that was apparently used for gunnery calculations. I had one of the gunners levels in my shop but unfortunately it sold pretty much immediately. I will keep my eye out for another and let you know if I get one. I should have some wooden gunners tools up in my shop soon though ...and then I discovered the wine... LauraConklin
Found and bought a gunner's level (got lucky on Ebay and nabbed up the Franklin Mint variety) . Still searching for gunner's quadrant and gunner's calipers or gunner's stiletto.

Jas. Hook
Somewhat different than the illustrations shown above there is a Gunner's Quadrant photo on page 163 in Battle At Sea, 3000 Years of Naval Warfare by R.G. Grant. Caption - "Gunner's Quadrant: A quadrant was used to determine the elevation of a gun's barrel. A spirit level attached to the pivot arm marked the horizontal, while a plumb-bob measured the required angle" However there is no date listed as to the circa of this particular instrument. Jas. Hook "Born on an island, live on an island... the sea has always been in my blood." Jas. Hook "You can't direct the wind . . . but . . . you can adjust the sails." "Don't eat the chickens with writing on their beaks." Governor Sawney
