Insight into a Pirate's Day-to-Day Life on Land?

Jennie Gist posted a link to a really interesting article on a pirate encampment that archeologists are excavating in Belize from the early 18th century. The article contains a lot of supposition, but I guess that's about the best we can do when looking at the remains of the refuse from such a site. You can check out the article here.

Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?"

John: "I don't know."

Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."

Well that was interesting. Lots of food for thought, fodder for discussion. I totally agree, there is lots of supposition. A preponderance of bowls could also mean a crate of delftware brought back as booty was full of broken pieces. A lot depends on context, and I have enough questions after that article to make a post tedious.

I guess we can look forward to an explosion of pirates running around with delftware and chinese porcelain bowls and pipes now, eh? ;)
