Bright Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Does any one know were to find info on the sand bag like itemes kept on the rail above the gun deck between what apers to be neting ?
Hawkyns Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 They are not sandbags, they are the hammocks of the sailors, rolled and put into the nets on the top of the bulwarks. They were put there to clear them out of the way, and for use in stopping bullets, shrapnel and splinters, as well as to make boarding more difficult. Hawkyns Cannon add dignity to what otherwise would be merely an ugly brawl I do what I do for my own reasons. I do not require anyone to follow me. I do not require society's approval for my actions or beliefs. if I am to be judged, let me be judged in the pure light of history, not the harsh glare of modern trends.
