Matty Bottles
So my wife and I are going to Fort Myers tomorrow, and we're going to leave the baby with his grandparents and sneak off to Key West for a few days. I've only been once, and that was for PiP, and while I remember a bit of the places I went, I can't remember where I ate. Part of that was following a bunch of people to a restaurant and never learning its name, and part of that might be rum-related amnesia. In any case, I want to know some fun places to go. And I thought, Why not ask the fine folks who have invaded Key West every year for the last decade or so? "The time was when ships passing one another at sea backed their topsails and had a 'gam,' and on parting fired guns; but those good old days have gone. People have hardly time nowadays to speak even on the broad ocean, where news is news, and as for a salute of guns, they cannot afford the powder. There are no poetry-enshrined freighters on the sea now; it is a prosy life when we have no time to bid one another good morning." - Capt. sutlerjon
For Cuban coffee ... Sandy's on White street ..... yes, it's in the laundromat! Cafe con Leche is the best along with toasted Cuban bread & butter! Get a Cuban sandwich while you're at it. For an authentic Cuban food dinner find El Siboney ..... Kip at the fort can help you, I always have to go hunting in the car. michaelsbagley
Cafe Sole... Mission took the wife and I there on our first trip to Key West, and it was awesome! It would be the first restaurant I would go back to there.

Mission
Check out this thread for my thoughts on restaurants in Key West. From what I've seen so far here, I'd recommend Cafe Sole for great food and B.O.'s Fish Wagon for neat atmosphere and cracked conch. (If I had a four-hour layover in Key West, I'd be trying to find a way to get to Cafe Sole.) Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?" John: "I don't know." Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."
William Brand
Wherever you go, try the pie. Not only does every other place make their own key lime pie, but each variant is different enough to make it a culinary trek of pies.
