captscurvy_nc
I have a gray coat that is not finished yet. It started out as a old west style coat but Ive been looking at it and I'm thinking of changing the lapels and making it more into the style of coat Tim Curry wore in Muppet Treasure Island. Having a hard time finding pics or references to exactly what style they were going for or basing the design off of. Anybody have pics or links that would help? captscurvy_nc
That's the one. Thanks. Wonder what I can compare it to "historically". This will be more of a Hollywood style fantasy pirate get up but I'm just curious if there is a accurate time period style coat it's based on
peglegstrick
looks like a 1680s Justacorps type coat....not sure about it ..... It just looks like an early type coat. Check out Reconstructing History's website in the patern section....they have them
captscurvy_nc
Sounds good. The lapels look easy enough to draw my own pattern but it always helps to have a reference. Still deciding on what to do for cuffs. How'd the waistcoat I sent you work out?
peglegstrick
Havent even had time to start on it yet. Gonna put a diferent back on it and re shape & resew. Gentlemen of Fortune's website had coat paterns for the early Justacorps that you can download in pdf format. they have the sleeves that you could modify. Let me know if you need them I have them on file somewhere.

I can't get to my copy right now, but I seem to remember looking at that coat in the movie, then going to the book to draft a version of it for my son's Halloween costume. We went from Long John SIlver to Captain Hook to Jack Sparrow in that coat (yeah, I know, very wrong especially for Jack, but people 'round here aren't very picky about pirates ) Jen

Capt. Sterling
hmmm try this...and if it works you can thank Bosun Cross http://www.reenactor.ru/ARH/PDF/The_Cut.pdf "I being shot through the left cheek, the bullet striking away great part of my upper jaw, and several teeth which dropt down the deck where I fell... jendobyns
Sweet! When did CoMC go online? I think it was either coat XV or XVII, I've made coats based on both, but probably the Hook/Long John SIlver/PotC (kid's halloween) coat was diagram XVII. I can't go check, as it's gone on to a friend's grandkids.
