Jib Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Henry Morgan did not consider himself a pirate. He found the term insulting. It angered him to be considered a pirate since he was a patriot of the English crown. But what about the buccaneers he rallied to his cause? Would they be considered pirates? Did not Henry have to hang a few of these lads after he was awarded the gov. of Port Royal?
Swashbuckler 1700 Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Well as far as i know buccaneers were consired pirates only 1670 onwards and when there was peace between Spain and England. I think Morgan hanged some when he was a lieutenant governor of jamaica. "I have not yet Begun To Fight!"John Paul Jones
Tartan Jack Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Morgan made use of his former underlings to capture those that didn't yield, such as James "Jamie Boy" Waring in hunting down Capts.Billy Leech, for example. Oh yeah, that is the plot of The Black Swan of 1942 and has little accurate in it . . . But, still one the very best pirate films ever made! -John "Tartan Jack" Wages, of South Carolina
