Capt. Bo of the WTF co.
Hey Ol' man! Good to see you around. I think it is "you in your garb", maybe up in the Crows Nest? Been pretty quiet 'round here of late. I gave up on the pyrate re-enacting thing but still come around to post stuff I find in my colonial reseach and just keep in touch with folks. hurricane
Haven't missed much. Been haunting posts occasionally but it seems like almost everything's been said. A lot of the new posts are repeated themes (Hey, GoF, did pirates where bucket boots?) . Especially in some of the main topics. -- Hurricane ______________________________________________________________________ http://piratesofthecoast.com/images/pyracy-logo1.jpg Captain of The Pyrates of the Coast Author of "Memoirs of a Buccaneer: 30 Year Before the Mast" (Published in Fall 2011) Scurrilous Rogue Stirrer of Pots Fomenter of Mutiny Bon Vivant & Roustabout Part-time Carnival Barker Certified Ex-Wife Collector Experienced Drinking Companion "I was screwed. Fox
What ho old chap, Good to see you're still on this mortal coil mate. While you're here, let me remind you that piracy is about fun and living the lifestyle, and nobody has the right to criticise you for not coming up to their so-called 'perfect' standards. Hell, you can be a play pirate if you want to and you shouldn't be made to feel inferior because of it. Also, bear in mind that since you don't have boils and scurvy you can't possibly give an accurate representation. We haven't been reminded of all that for at least two weeks. On the other hand, I have posted some pretty cool stuff (like John Taylor's articles and a statistical breakdown of several hundred sailors' garments by colour and fabric) that have been pretty much ignored. You still in the land of sausages and silly hair cuts? You forgot about having the right psychological frame of reference. Gentleman of Fortune
Hey Guys! Well met indeed. Its good to "see" so many of you. I stick my nose in from time to time just to see how the winds are blowing. I especially like to see the thread from PIP and folks posting pictures of themselves in their kit. I was just reading some stuff from the forum at the PirateBrethren site... good stuff. CPT BO: Thanks for finding the "in your garb" thread and bumping. I swear I looked for it... damn my eyes! How is school going? Taking care of yourself? Hurricane: Glad to see you are still sailing. I can't tell you how many times I think of you and your group... down in sunny Florida! On my bucket list is hearing you play. Oh yes, I have a strange bucket list. FOXE: How are things in "Jolly o'l"? Still with the ship? I have been having a blast re-reading long dead threads here and at the PB forum. Keep all that good info coming. Folks do read it, and its priceless. Still go to TORM? Captain Sterling: I've been busy at your site too! You guys are still carrying the torch and setting the standard. Keep up the good work! Oderless: Thanks for the kind words about the buckles and hearing that they are serving you well. I handed the business off to Mike B, he should be coming out with something soon. Maybe you can be a shoe model?? Also, I think you are missing your calling. You should do a full Blackbeard impression and take the show on the road. Before I moved to Europe (in 1998), I taught school a bit in VA Beach. Part of their elementary school curriculum included a unit on Pirates. There was/is a well known pirate impersonator who the school system paid to come and give a pirate talk... I think he walked around in his "Black beard" outfit for 45 mintues and gave a talk... Then he was handed a check for like $200. There were 72 elementary schools in VA beach at the time. I'll let you do the math, you can ARRRRR all the way to the bank! I have scads of stuff that I never got up on the GOF site... and got to a point that I was willing to cut her mooring lines and let her drift. It still gets about 5000 folks a month visiting... maybe I should put up a viagra ad on there????? Take Care! Fox
Hey Greg, Yeah, I'm still on the ship, but I cut my hours down quite significantly to concentrate on a couple of other things, like parenting two new younkers, a bit of teaching, and writing a PhD thesis - if all goes to plan I will, in a couple of years, genuinely be a Dr of piratology (I don't think that's what they write on the certificate though...) I theoretically still go to TORM, but I don't think I've actually been since that time we met up. Keep your site going mate, it's still the first port of call I always recommend newbies who ask. Capt. Bo of the WTF co.
You're welcome. I am finishing up my last semester student teaching, then IF there are any jobs open (and it doesn't look good here in MO) on to the certified real thing. I never imagined many years ago being an old hillbilly biker dude with a BSE in secondary social studies! Only three months left of my five year voyage. As to taking care of myself, well, still working on that. (never been too good at it really) Bo

Matthew
Hi Bo, My name is Matthew and I am just getting into this type of reenacting. Would you be interested in selling any of your garb and accessories? If so, let me know, you can email me at mkrogh@vt.edu Thanks! MK Hey Ol' man! Good to see you around. I think it is "you in your garb", maybe up in the Crows Nest? Been pretty quiet 'round here of late. Capt. Bo of the WTF co.
Howdy Matthew. I have very little left for this period, but I do have some very nice breeches that don't fit me if you are a smaller fellow than I. They are about a 32"-34" waist with expanding gusset, the rise is only about 24", and the inseam to the knees is about 15 1/2" with a 15 1/4" calf circumference. Let me know if these might fit you and I'll give you more details. Bo
