Milking that particular cash cow until there's nothing left but the "moo", perhaps? And when they are finished with the movies, they can start a kid's cartoon program and use it to sell all the accessory toys! rolleyes.gif

Oh, goodness, I guess that's what happens when your kids are older and miss a trend. wink.gif So I guess #5 will spawn some accessories to what's already out there. It will be interesting to see, and maybe, considering the rate of time between movies, I'll have some grandchildren to corrupt rolleyes.gif

I don't mind further PotC adventures. I've heard the rumors abound of a PotC 5 and a PotC 6. I'm not holding my breath unlike some folks. But just intregued that there are rumors when PotC 4 has yet to be released!

But those comments on that link Bess provided... MOST UNCALLED FOR!!!

Frankly, I can still see plenty of elements that can still be used for PotC. Plenty of them.

I heard that Mr Depp loves to play Jack Sparrow and has said, "he'd love to play him again if the script was good" So an indicater of wether or not future istallments of Pirates of the Caribbean are gonna be good is if he's on cast.

i am a fan of the captain, but i am no fan of dragging out a movie until it becomes stupid !! i think it is really hard to come up with sequels that are actually worth a crap... far too many have done that and have cheapened the crap outta the original...

if it is done well, that is another story, but few have achieved that !!

Love the first one, sat through the second one at the theater (in costume even) when it opened, haven't watched it since. Saw about ten minutes of the third one, that was enough for me. I will give #4 a shot, but have low expectations givien the second and third were so bad (IMO).

I must admit, I'm a little hesatant about this one as well considering a lot of key players like Gore Verbinski and the Pintel and Regetti pair aren't in it, plus some of the plot points are questionable.

Okay, it's definitely going to be a hotly debated topic but here's my take:

The first Pirates of the Caribbean film was the only "good" one. As with many of these franchises. However, I still loved #2, mainly for Davy Jones. He was pretty epic, and I think (nearly) everyone can agree on that. One of the best movie villains since Darth Vader, in my opinion. And ultimately, though the plot was a little convoluted, I could still follow it, and found it fun.

#3 however lost me completely. I still enjoyed it on a completely superficial level, but I will not say it was a decent film, because it just wasn't. It was practically made of plot-holes, and the characters were, by that point, so far removed from their original incarnations, that I found myself not really giving a damn about any of them. Still, I've watched it several times, and I continue to enjoy it (mostly for Jack), even if I know it's not very good. Kinda' like why I keep going back to watch Cutthroat Island ;)

That being said, I'm pretty excited for #4. Yes, it's probably too much of a good thing. But I'm holding out hope. Some of what I've seen so far looks fantastic... other stuff... well, not so much. But I will reserve judgement until I actually watch the movie.

When they started talking about 5 though, I can't say I was all that surprised. When they announced 4, it seemed to me that they were gearing up for a second trilogy of films. A good idea? Probably not. But it was pretty much inevitable. And hey, you never know, they could surprise us all and offer some really good yarns. Seems like they're bringing in some fresh blood and sloughing off some of the old, which could be a good thing or could be a bad thing, but there's no way of knowing for sure just yet. Naturally the movies will all be over-the-top fantasy films, and I'm sure they will continue to piss off serious historians and reenactors because of all the false ideas they put in peoples' heads, but ultimately, I couldn't care less about that. As long as there's a good story (which I haven't completely written off just yet), and some fun action and comedy, I'll be pleased enough. They DO create interest in the pirate community, as well as pirate history, and even if they perpetuate some untrue stereotypes, I can definitely get behind them for that reason alone.

Captain Jack McCool, landlocked pirate extraordinaire, Captain of the dreaded prairie schooner Ill Repute, etc. etc.

Personally I thought that #3 was better than #2. Dead Man's Chest had too many set pieces that didn't really advance the plot. Three was actually heading somewhere. This was complicated by Disney insisting that they start filming both movies at once before either script was finished.

My biggest complaint with #2 and #3 is that the stopped being pirates. By World's End, they morphed into freedom fighters. I'm hoping that with Blackbeard they will add in some plundering.

My assumption is that the studio executives saw a rough cut of #4 and started signing people for two more.

Personally, I enjoyed all of them.

If a PotC 5 and PotC 6 do happen, well... shall look foward to them as well. But I shall hope that Barbossa be a part of it.

Ah come on. POTC movies to some of us might seem to be getting old but the general public loves them still and they are still making huge money. Nothing running dry anytime soon. Lets be honest, in some ways pirates with the general public hasnt even peaked yet. There is only one popular pirate themed set of movies, failed reality show and not much more.

I think we will see a lot more from Pirates in the film and entertainment relm before it drys up. I think we would all like to see some other movies or perhaps a decent TV show or mini series.

I heard that the later movies, and yes there will most likely be more then just 5, that Sparrow might not be the main character but more of a roll player.

Honestly we will just have to wait and see how #4 is first.

But, I was popular as a pyrate before any of the POTC movies came out, and I wasn't even portraying a pyrate at the time.

The "general publick" don't know a pyrate from a pink pussycat. (not that I ever dressed as a pink pussycat ;) )

LMAO!!! Bo... That put an odd image in m' head. Horribly... ye in some pink pussycat costume.

I think the general public is afraid of saying "he/she isn't a pirate". But again, tis what we are here for to "educate" the public. Aren't we?

Oh, yes. Yes, Bo. I believe ye. :)
