Korisios
I found some handblown union bottles on ebay, they cost each something like 24 dollars or something. My question is: Is this a good prise (fro the buyer) or are there sheaper ones somewhere?? Edited January 5, 2011 by Korisios
PLUNDERING PYLOS PARKER
you can go to Jamestown Glasshouse and pick them up. 24 dollars isnt bad , are they green? also the Castillo De San Marcos Fort ,in St. Augustine Florida, their gift shop has them also, including case bottles too, they are under 20 dollars or so, not including shipping, eastern national gift shop number is 904-824-2615, ask for bruce dayle. they ship all over the United States, the gift shop gets a break (wholesale) from Jamestown Glasshouse, i have about 2 dozen of both styles. Mission
$20 - $30 seems pretty standard, really. Hey QMJ, do you know of any decent sources for square-bottomed, corked bottles (other than Jamestown)? Several sutlers resell the Jamestown bottles, so I am not counting them as different sources. Personally, I like the Jamestown bottles best. Best price too. Otherwise, keep a weather eye out on eBay and thrift stores.

Mission
What I want is small (say holding a cup or less), matching, square-bottomed bottles with mouths for corks. I have some for my medicine chest, but they're all machine-made. Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. So you might want to contact them and find out if they'll do what you need. Sounds like most of the work is already done, just working out size and price with them. http://www.livinghistoryshop.com/resources.html For that matter, it might be worth googling other glassblowers to find out if they'll also do the work, or if a school could hand off the project to a student for a good price. If not, have you tried Specialty Bottle? They offer this: http://www.specialty...PROD&ProdID=530 Aye! It's a little bigger than your specs, but... Also, I've dealt with this company and can personally recommend them. Now, curiosity being what it is, here are a few things I found on the web, this craft supply shop has some bottles you might like: http://www.artfire.c...duct_id=2125609 http://www.artfire.c...duct_id=2125596 http://www.artfire.c...duct_id=2125603 http://www.artfire.c...duct_id=2125607 http://www.artfire.c...duct_id=2129464 <=== 6 oz corked square bottle! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! Hope is renewed for my surgeon's chest! Somehow I knew you held the key. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! Hope is renewed for my surgeon's chest! Somehow I knew you held the key. I never knew you were after some of these. I've had a load since before we even got talking about the chests. Just building a captains liquor chest with similar bottles in it based on one from 1756. ...and then I discovered the wine... Korisios
Back to toppic...: When I see pictures of the genuine old bottles they appear black, but the replica's you guys pointed out to me are green and more transparant... So have the old ones turned black and less transparant after all these years..?
Quartermaster James
I've seen bottles of the period in lighter colors, but predominantly of the dark green "black" glass. Oh! And a manufacturer I forgot to mention previously does also address this: http://westmoorepott...products_id=376 While you're there, check out their Bellarmine jugs. Quartermaster James
Though most of this site addresses bottles of the 1800's-1950's, this page does add some information pertinent to our period: http://www.sha.org/bottle/wine.htm
