Most memorable moment, running aground whilst rowing at night because everyone in the boat was too busy watching the big screen tv in some one house on shore.

Fantastic event Dutch!!! A fine batch of serious new reenactors and was great to see those who have been friends for many years too!! Great location for an encampment and moonlight maneuvers ;)

Don't forget the monster spider(s) that tried to sneak up on Duncan and Lily. Luckily they were quicker and chased it away. Huge I tell ya... just huge!

Aye!

Awesome event!

Huzzah to Dutch and all the CSF and Deltaville Museum folks!!!

My apologies for the late chime in, we arrived home safe n' sound, are MUCH cleaner now...

Tick Count! Got everyone beat... by the end of the event I had 10... Must like imported food... Identified them as brown ticks... little bastards...

Mosquitos, mostly bit up my ankles, but not so bad...

Wonderful time meeting new folks and seeing old friends!

Can't wait for the next one I can make it to!

The first competition was the skiff races...each boat had one navigator, one oarsman and one person to make sure the boats did not come into contact with each other. At first Dutch declared that the rower was to be blindfolded and the navigator would guide him. But then Dutch declared there were "no rules!" Well you can just imagine

The first heat was crew #1 from the Archangel (Matt Short Thumb, Israel Cross and Sean Merriweather) up against Blackbeard's crew(TJ Savage, Capt. Pern, and Madame Grace).gallery_2648_307_1267832.jpg

Not only did they have to row, navigate and defend, but they all had to bail as well...as the boat's were just about ready to sink. If you notice some rather wet Blackbeard's crew, tis because Grace and Sean instead of keeping the boats apart, decided to try and yank each other out of their respective boats. At one point Grace had Sean by the waistcoat out over the water, with only Sean's feet left in the boat, but the valiant young snotty regained his seat and then proceeded to use the bailing bucket to pour water all over Grace after holding fast to the blade of Pern's oar. Needless to say, the Archangel crew won this heat, with Israel's great navigation (and the fact he snuck on an extra paddle to serve as a rudder), Matt's superb rowing(he wore his blind fold, just not over his eyes as the one rule did not specify WHERE you wore it) and Mr. Merriweather's unscrupulous behavior.

The second heat begins: Archangel crewe 1 competes against the next crew from the Colonial Seaport Foundation (Long Tom, Ahab, Jeff)

Right then, not the best picture, but Capt. Pern has just left the dock

Capt. Sterling running to strip off his waistcoat so he can apprehend Pern, as usual Sterling had way too much crap in his pockets that could not get wet

Winners and losers taking a breather

This time Matt served as navigator (pushing the boat as far as he could, whilst Dutch yelled "Hey you are supposed to be rowing the boat and Israel fired right back that he was rowing). Once again the heat was close until the Archangel crew went into the lead. T'was then that the scoundrel Captain Pern leapt off the dock, swam out and grabbed hold of the Archangel boat (with Israel screaming Why aren't we moving???) and the Colonial Seaport Museum cruised past to victory.

Heat 3 tomorrow...

Hangin at Execution dock awaits. May yer Life be a long and joyous adventure in gettin there!
As he was about to face the gallows there, the pirate is said to have tossed a sheaf of papers into the crowd, taunting his audience with these final words:

"My treasure to he who can understand."

So I apologize for the lateness of my reply, but I don't own a computer....

This event was an absolute blast, from taking the explorer out on Friday Night, the Skiff Race on Saturday. Even watching Reggie and I completely botch the hawser relay was funny in its own way. Thanks so much to Dutch and the CSF for hosting an event that I would love to co0me to again whenever I can. Personal Thanks to Pern for allowing me to help re-make the standing rigging for the explorer, and of course to Captain Sterling for letting me fall in with the Angels.

As far a ticks go (knock on wood) Haven't seen one yet. and very few if any mosquito bites. I personally think it has something to do with me not wearing shoes for 3 straght days.

Thanks to everyone again

Yours & co.

CJ
