Malachai Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Aye Captain. I've ordered plenty of limes for the day, though I'll probably be serving them in margaritas! ~Your humble Quartermaster "Blue, green, grey, white, or black; smooth, ruffled, or mountainous; that ocean is not silent." H.P. Lovecraft
theM.A.dDogge Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Remember that things "Pickled" also helped prevent Scurvey...many kegs of Pickled Vegitables made it onto ships manifests...and would last longer than fresh fruit....course ya would have to eat 'bout twice as many pickles as fruit so how am i preventing scurvey on May 2...????....i'll be getting thoroughly "pickled"...
Ransom Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I shall be celebrating by drinking a few G&Ts with lime. So civilized. ...schooners, islands, and maroons and buccaneers and buried gold... You can do everything right, strictly according to procedure, on the ocean, and it'll still kill you. But if you're a good navigator, a least you'll know where you were when you died.......From The Ship Killer by Justin Scott. Captain McCool Posted April 30, 2010 Author Posted April 30, 2010 Haha, M.A.d'Dogge, why do I think you're a little pickeled already? capn'rob Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 The most effective, easy to store and long lasting preventative of Scurvy turns out to be Sauerkraut. Like M. D. d'Dogge said, "pickled veggies" will work but the Cabbage has the most Vitamin C. I just thought about the daily sodium intake our preceeding shipmates must have had.
Captain McCool Posted May 3, 2010 Author Posted May 3, 2010 I hope everyone had a healthy and safe Scurvy Awareness Day!
