The Island
I know this one is tough but do any of you guys have besides Gosse's bio any info in depth about Augur's role with Woodes Rogers? I read Dafoes account but its so vague about Augur. Just wondering if there is any reference for his trial and was this the only Pirate that Hornigold brought back as a pirate hunter? Fox
I could be wrong (I often am), but I believe Auger's trial and some peripheral documents can be found amongst the Colonial Office papers in the National Archives at Kew. I may have copies somewhere, but don't hold your breath. Hornigold's post-pardon career is covered to some extent in Woodard's The Republic of Pirates. (N.b. If you scan back through the archives of old threads here you'll discover there's a substantial debate about the whole Defoe/Johnson identification) Foxe"With this Fore-Staff he fansies he does Wonders, when, God knows, it amounts to no more but only to solve that simple Question, Where are we?
