Guest Angus MacVox
please tell me what you think of the intro I wrote for the front page: https://pyracy.com Pyracy Pub is the discussion group for pyrate re-enactors in ren faires, pirate festivals, and for everyone fascinated by the Golden Age of Pyracy. Broaden your horizons, make new connections and get more involved in our exciting historical subculture of notorious pyrates, proud privateers, banished buccaneers, cutthroat corsairs, and wily wenches! Brought to you by No Quarter Given Magazine. What's the attraction? In this modern world, and especially on the Internet, "Piracy" is something Microsoft is afraid of. We now draw your attention to "Pyracy" - what Spanish slave traders were afraid of. Imagine a world where wearing noticeable clothing was impossible if you were not one of the few aristocrats, a world where if you wanted to work on the sea, you had to accept the cruelty of royal naval officers and the monotonous order of the merchant marines. Imagine a world where cursing and getting drunk were shocking, where sex was scandalous, where Christianity influenced government, and where society and its laws stood for no higher ideal than shoring up the comfort and stability of the rich. But this vast repressive structure has an Achilles heel, and you know it. You're going to exploit it. The highest technology of the day, great wooden sail ships loaded with canons, could be owned and operated by private individuals - by you, by force. You and your crew can take on the greatest nations of the planet on the open seas, and often win. It is the modern equivalent of owning a fleet of F-18 fighter jets and telling George Bush to bugger off. And he would, if he knows what's good for him. You're no Iraq. You're a bloody PYRATE!
