The Island Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 If anyone knows the names of these two unknown pirate captains? I believe Nicols first name is Thomas since there was a Thomas Nicols, who was one of the many pirates like Hornigold to receive the Royal Pardon. I ask because it seems the only source, i found that stated these two names was in Cordingly's book, "Under the Black Flag". It seems these two pirate captains flags were well described and documented but nothing further is known on them. My favorite pirate ship name "The Night Rambler"
Fox Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Napin and Nichols are fairly elusive characters. Apart from the Boston Newsletter article cited by Cordingly the only other reference to Napin I know of is in the Weekly Journal or British Gazetteer, 23 November 1717, describing an attack by Napin (this time alone apparently) on the Adventure pink of London. Alas, it only calls him Captain Napin again. The Nichols in question may well have been Thomas Nichols (right time, right place). By way of a consolation prize, here's a copy of the letter he sent to Governor Bennet of Bermuda accepting the pardon.
