Cascabel Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 What about the sea battle, if there is one ? Yes, there will be a sea battle @ 5PM involving the Pride Of Baltimore, Bounty and Schooner Farewell. The Pride is the only vessel taking passengers for the battle http://www.pride2.or...d/day_sails.php Who, exactly, are considered "entertainment crews" ? These are groups hired by Fells Point Main Street (event host) to do performances on Broadway Pier. Will there be black powder demonstrations, and who will be allowed to fire ? As stated earlier there is a full living history camp on the Bond Street Wharf. The camp will have numerous demonstrations, including small arms and a cannon line. The demonstrations will be done by the members of the encampment. We will not be able to accommodate guests / visitors on the line. Do the rules apply to both swords and guns, or just guns ? Both What about walking to and from the LH camp, or other "approved" areas ? How would "approved" weapons carrying people be identified ? If NOT going into the bars, are weapons OK to wear while walking around ? Members of the encampment are authorized their weapons during the DAYTIME activities - no one from the encampment will be carrying during the ball or pub crawl. If you are not working this event then you are a visitor, and asked to abide by the event rules. If you bring and carry a weapon anyway it is at your own risk. Please note: I only manage the LH aspect of the event, not the entire event. Also at this point we do not have capacity to bring any additional groups / individuals into the encampment. If anyone is interested in participating next year they are welcome to contact me by email. Thanks for the clarification. I didn't want to inadvertently run afoul of the rules. What about non-firing replicas, plastic blades, etc., while we are on the subject ?? >>>>> Cascabel

Talderoy Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 (edited) Mates this is a top notch event and we have it handled! Come bring your props and act responcible!! The pier will have a performers area .Just come and we will have a great time(WE HAVE IT HANDLED) If you need to check your weapons there will be a lace at Pirate Magazines booth on the pier to store them. Also Drinking on the pub crawl it is not a good idea to carry swords in baldlic or any weapons to make our land loving friends more comfortable. Edited March 31, 2010 by Talderoy
Hawkyns Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I'm firmly with Hurricane on this one. Living History without weapons? Pirates without weapons? This event will not be showing up on my schedule. I don't carry plastic weapons, to do so would be to ignore the reality and a slap in the face to all serious living history people. And I don't let other people store my weapons. I don't understand the comment about Maryland. No weapons are banned at Fort Frederick for the Market Fair or other events. I go armed to the teeth at St. Mary's Cittie, including walking around the college. There were no issues about Lock House. Seems it is just more of a renfaire attitude of no weapons or peace tied, neither of which is correct. Hawkyns (and yes, I know this will piss some people off) Cannon add dignity to what otherwise would be merely an ugly brawl I do what I do for my own reasons. I do not require anyone to follow me. I do not require society's approval for my actions or beliefs. if I am to be judged, let me be judged in the pure light of history, not the harsh glare of modern trends.

Dutchman Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 well this is what i'm intertested in doing on sunday. USS Constelation, Light Ship Chesapeake and the light house are on my list. Any one else want to come along? These are great opportunities to learn about maritime history right in the events back yard. http://www.historicships.org
1stMate Matt Posted March 31, 2010 Author Posted March 31, 2010 Good to see you here Talderoy my Capt! Yes we had no issues and we will check yor weapons for you if needed. We realize that for the many many photo ops that will happen that weekend that some wont go without their weaponry. Play it safe! Hawk I dont understand...the LH most certainly is allowed to have weapons. Besides in all reality pirates didnt run around in a city like Fells Point with weapons all over then. Maybe a knife and maybe the officers had a sword. Not much more. Hell I make my living off of weaponry and I dont have issues with the policy. If this were a gated event then Iw ould push for weapons but we are in the already crowded downtown Baltimore. Baltimore maybe south of the mason dixon line but it sure doesnt act like it sometimes. And yes Sunday! We told you all last year that we would do the best that we could to make it a 2 day event or at least 2 days of events. If you can't make it Sunday then dont fret, but good times will be had by all. Last year we did fort Mchenry on sunday and that was fun. This year we are going a bit further. More updates coming...Stay tuned! -1st Mate of Pirates Magazine -Bladesmith/Owner of That Works Studio http://youtube.com/thatworks thatworks.shop
1stMate Matt Posted March 31, 2010 Author Posted March 31, 2010 "Privateer Day: Has a strict no-weapons policy. The only exceptions to that are the entertainment crews when they are on stage, and the LH camp participants." This is a none typical event, but not one to be missed this year. Im telling you. I dont even know whats all in store for this event. Talderoy finds a way to supprise even the closest of his crew. -1st Mate of Pirates Magazine -Bladesmith/Owner of That Works Studio http://youtube.com/thatworks thatworks.shop

Dutchman Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 thought sunday was a pack up go home day? unless there is something going on that I missed or people really want to leave, thought it might be fun to be a tourist for a few, plus might be a good inro opportunity for CSF :)
Capt. Sterling Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 (edited) Fine by me. Can we leave the trailer at the camp area and travel about on foot? Edited March 31, 2010 by Capt. Dutchman Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 looking at the map we should be able to. The brick building that is at the head of the pier is supposed to have some recently launched long boats and the others look to be within a few blocks.
Capt. Sterling Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Sounds like a plan. Talderoy Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 (edited) Mates Mates! The way I see it this is an event to honor top pirates from around the known pirate world ,the Devil's Dozen into the order of Leviathan for Pirates Magazine and a chance to meet and mingle with like minded folk. Me I am always armed to the teeth and I don't carry toys! I agree with points made by Hawkyns and Hurricane(By the way ye will be missed)but this is much more than a weapons fest .We have top pirate mates making the journey and two ships the likes of the pride of Baltimore and the BOUNTY docked on each side of the pier. These fine ships will be taking a select group of pirates (30 that I will be hand picking Devil's Dozen included) out on the water Saturday. Sunday The Bounty will be taking 60 of us on a four trip to Annapolis!! (How we will be getting back I'm not sure yet but I will get ye back,we will get back if me 1st mate Matt has to drive a bus!.) My good mate Jason in charge of this fine event Privateer Day has rules and regulation he needs to abide by. I am offering him my services as head of the goon squad to police the event and gentle ask me fellow mates to accompany me to an area by the Bounty where they can take pictures with their weapons. We will be offering a weapons check at the Pirate magazine booth in hopes to make every ones day me pleasant as not to have to walk to car or back to hotel. Lets help Jason or better yet help me ye SWABS (I'll be looking for goon Squad members) Ill post more as the world turn mates when things are final . Thar arrrr friendly arrrrr ports but let us knot forget ourselfs ,,,us pirates arrrr guests of Privateers and ye know how nervious that lots gets with us pirates. A privateer is nothing more than a closet pirate and we make them nervious we does. SO AS NOT TO BE INCONVENIENCED LEAVE THE REAL WEAPONS AT HOME AND MAKE A BOTTLE OR A TANKARD OR A BELAYING PIN YER PROP ! Thar not toys and ye can keep yar diggnitty ya dogs! ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE !!!! I hear Captain Sterling the Pirate hunter is rumored to be about so take heed mates !Watch our backs or ye might be looking far worse than ye do, and mates lets face it some of you are pretty ugly so beware!!!!!! Capt. Sterling Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Honestly what it all boils down to is that we, whether in the living history camp, are a stage entertainer, or a member of the Devil's Dozen, are invited guests of the City of Baltimore and therefore we really do need to behave according to their rules whether we care for them or not. If we can't do that we not only run the risk of bad press aimed directly at us and rightfully so because we caused it, but we also run the risk of losing an event. By abiding by the rules, we come off as the more mature force and perhaps in the future, be granted more privileges because we have shown ourselves to be trust worthy and responsible. captscurvy_nc Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Wish I could make this event but so far Hampton is the only one I have been able to manage this year so far. Maybe next year.
Capt. Sterling Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Look forward to seeing you at Hampton, its been awhile. captscurvy_nc Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 yes it has. I have more metal in me now than the last time you saw me. But at least my new hip will make Hampton a lot more enjoyable than last year. No crew with me for Hampton, just myself and my brand new cutlass from 1st mate Matt
