Silkie McDonough
I think they get something that isn't boned but since I have no child I have not researched their clothing. I do recall that boys and girls were dressed the same for the first many years ...but I could be wrong.
Salty
Aye, the wee ones would have indeed been dreassed the same for the fisrt 5 ish years in simple shifts and caps. The the top of the boys shift would be made to look like a waistcoat, and yes the wee lasses would have been started on stays. To the tune of they have done internal comparisons of women then and today to illistrate the differnce in body outline, and the displacment of internal organs. I will try to dig up some photos if anyone wants to discuss this particular aspect. sorry jack, didnt mean tot threadjack. just too damn cute Mud Slinging Pyromanic , Errrrrr Ship's Potter at ye service Vagabond's Rogue Potter Wench First Mate of the Fairge Iolaire Me weapons o choice be lots o mud, sharp pointy sticks, an string
LadyBrower
That is just the sweetest little thing! She is precious! The little ones do grow so fast. I know at times, little dresses were fitted with "growth pleats" that could be let out with a matter of snips as the child grew... I would imagine a mantua style dress would be easy to do that with, and to accomodate length, start a little longer and put a deep, basted hem you could let down as needed... Just a thought. :-) Cook and Seamstress to the Half Moon Marauders Lady Brower's Treasures, Clothing and other treasures Hell Hath No Fury like the Wrath of a Woman... No that's it. Jack Roberts
Thanks Lady Brower. I've done that for her petticote. I didn't with the Mantua because it was made out of scraps I had laying around and it's kinda poorly made because I whipped it up in an evening.
