Capt. Sterling
For those interested in doing demos for the public at PiP, please sound off here. Once again we are hoping to have the schools come in and that is being looked into, more information to follow on that as soon as it is nailed down. But there will be demos done on the weekend as well... Crewe of the Archangel will be providing demos on Weapons, Sword fighting Clothing Indentured Servitude Cargo Games Navigation Shaving demo Those from other crews who are also interested in demoing the above are welcome to join in. We can arrange times/breaks for during the day. Edited September 3, 2009 by Capt. hurricane
We will be doing the period pub again, down there. We did it two years ago in the fort, will just be moving it beachside this time. There, we will be doing period games, including Passage, Pass Deux, One and Thirty, Wit and Reason and Banklafalet, I believe. Around that we will be tending to the pub (which is not serving to the public), cleaning weapons and generally being the atmosphere. The entire camp is welcomed to hang there and we will be serving lemonadoes (lemonade) to everyone to keep them properly quenched during the day. That is the preliminary plan. If I was humanly be able to swing it, I'd bring in one of our newest recruits to make period knives in the coals of the campfire. But more on that later. -- Hurricane -- Hurricane ______________________________________________________________________ http://piratesofthecoast.com/images/pyracy-logo1.jpg Captain of The Pyrates of the Coast Author of "Memoirs of a Buccaneer: 30 Year Before the Mast" (Published in Fall 2011) Scurrilous Rogue Stirrer of Pots Fomenter of Mutiny Bon Vivant & Roustabout Part-time Carnival Barker Certified Ex-Wife Collector Experienced Drinking Companion "I was screwed. Capt. Sterling
Be interesting just to see how many school kids show up to watch that at three o'clock in the morning! OH I volunteer to do guard duty at the gate when Maddogge wants to get back in the Fort. I'm locking the gate up tight and not letting him in. Edited September 3, 2009 by Capt. Hawkyns
I'll be doing leatherwork in the shop, either making new kit or doing repairs for them wot needs them. All period techniques, all period tools. If I can get away from the shop for a bit, I'd like to get involved with the swordplay. Sterling, what do you guys use for weapons and what are your rules/safety specs? Hawkyns Cannon add dignity to what otherwise would be merely an ugly brawl I do what I do for my own reasons. theM.A.dDogge
Hawkins, in the past, swords have been restricted to a "fight circle" and the Bone Island Buccaneers "fight master" oversaw the rules and regs of said "fight circle"...consisting mainly of choreographed "fights" with a practiced partner.... there were no "sword fighting" durring battle scenarios.... i do know that their..."fight master"...has stepped away from the host group...and am not aware of who has stepped into that role...as of yet. i would like to see some..."hand to hand" ...durring the battle scenarios...and would like to work out a plan to do so safely with various members....as well as discuss at length you and your groups "style and techniques"...to see what can be worked out. once things are a little more nailed down...we shall include you in the loop. Raphael Misson
Yeah, I agree with you guys, although I do not fence. The sword fights in campsites were pretty neat at Paynetown (which is in a state park). The crowds seem to enjoy that sort of thing. “We either make ourselves miserable or we make ourselves strong. Diosa De Cancion
Well sadly, I will not be able to do any of the things I had been hoping to do for PIP this year... no swinging swords... no being tossed around... etc thanks to a guy driving on a suspended license in Jacksonville who ran me off the road and into a lightpole and a ditch..... The good news is all my body parts are still attached and a 2 week concussion headache is starting to go away. The bad news is that I have back and neck injuries that mean I have to be peaceful at PIP... No lifting... no physical or strenuous activities...sheesh... that pretty much ruins everything. Perhaps I will bring along my inkle loom and do some weaving? That's about the best I have going for me right now... Maybe make more passamentry buttons? Sigh.....I hate feeling helpless.... Silkie McDonough
Anyone who wants to do a demo in or around the Hide please feel free. Just let me know so that things can be coordinated between all who are interested. I encourage anyone who wants to use the fire at the Hide for a cooking demonstration to please feel free to do so. Last year Lady Constance made breads over the fire and it was a wonderful treat. We can also have someone "sell" their wares, hawkers with baskets and fake coin and perhaps giving the school children a taste.

But that idea got nixed a long tyme ago... Nay from Shay--- the pig's hide is still awaiting defrosting and I have boards to peg it out and describe the finer arts of boucan-eering as told by primary sources from Benerson Little's Buccaneer' Realm. I've been planning and prepping so please, please let me know if you DON'T want the pighide and accompanying living history demo (I promise to keep a close check on the prevailing winds!)
