hurricane
O.K. Here is our preliminary measurements: The Catt & Fiddle/Hurricane's Tent: 18 x 25 Diosa's Tent: 15 x 15 DB/Buxom: 14 x 20 Booty/Jill: 12 x 15 Cutter/Io: 12 x 15 Our crewe still has one unknown. But they would be a 15 x 15 if you want to factor that in. Thanks for riding heard on this Fayma and Sterling. We know how much hard work goes into this all. Ivan Henry aka Moose
Hey Sterling, I'm not certain as to my exact footprint, as my tent is still under construction, but.... I would say that 16x16 would be a safe bet with ropes and all factored in. My wife and and I are in the Mercury Camp, registered under Dana and Kelli Farnsworth. Iron Jon
Capt Stirling or William - Could you change my claim for a piece of land big enough for a 11x12 wall tent instead of the 6x8 wedge I asked for earlier? I'll still be setting up the fly with it. I haven't put all up yet to figure out the footprint with all the lines attached. This will free up the smaller tent for anyone needing a shelter for PiP. I'll bring it along just in case... Commodore Swab
I believe all the crimson crew will need is roughly 10X10 with room for fire pit. All we really need is room for a single tent and we will be camping PC, if its possible to place us near the Mercury crew so much the better. Capt. Sterling
Thank you Vintage Sailor... footprint noted... as to fire pits, that will be addressed in a separate thread in the not too distant future as these will be, unfortunately, limited, but then they always were. There will be a large community fire at the Hide available to everyone though...also anyone who has braziers will be allowed to use those as well. Edited September 11, 2009 by Capt. Raphael Misson
As regards the fire pits, Spike noted that dinner would be provided on Saturday and Sunday, which should reduce the need for them. It would seem to make sense to centralize the fire pit for Mercury and Arch Angel camps in the Silkies Hide, wouldn't it? That fire was big enough last year that multiple people could use it - and did. I recall both both crews mentioned using it (although Arch Angel did have a second fire for some reason) and Willie Wobble's group using it (although Willie tried to set up his own special fire without a pit for another reason). The Hide was a wonderful concept - why not take advantage of it as much as possible? “We either make ourselves miserable or we make ourselves strong. Commodore Swab
The reason I mention a small fire is that most likely my wife will want to do some PC Thai cooking and would need a centralized fire she could cook on top of (roughly the size of a large burner much smaller than a BBQ). It might be possible to bring a small clay stove and borrow some coals from the fire at the hide? All in all we are looking for something small she can light when she wants to do some cooking, not a fire pit for a fire always burning.
Lily Alexander
(although Arch Angel did have a second fire for some reason) Mission, That was a shared fire for the crews of the Archangel and Mercury. The Hide was a wonderful concept - why not take advantage of it as much as possible? There will be another thread devoted to the fire pits when Fayma is ready to post... for now just let it be said, that due to the Park Service, there will be a limited number of fire pits, including the community fire at the Hide, that is available for anyone to use, including doing any cooking demos. It is a possibility that the larger crews, such as the Mercury, will also have their own fire pit available to their crew... but we shall wait on Fayma/Spike to let us know what the Park Service will or will not allow. This year the Hide itself will not be providing any meals, although, as of now, it will be used Saturday night for the Saturday meal being provided and for the dessert night Friday, after dinner. The Hide will also be providing drinking water/gatorade in the large cargo coolers throughout the entire weekend. Hurricane, correct me if I am wrong, but I believe your group offered to provide "lemonade" as well at your pub... That being said, certain meals will be provided although folks need to start thinking about packing breakfast, snacks and possibly something for lunch, as, so far, they will have to fend for themselves in these areas.
