AliasGraceO'Malley
with school closed, and more snow and ice coming for the next 2 days I've got some time on my hands. So in between painting the family room I'll be here. Post a pirate question, any kind, factual, pop, fiction, etc. The next person answers and posts a new question. Here goes Where was Blackbeard the pirate born?
Redd Oktober
Depends on who you ask. Daniel Defoe listed his real name as Edwares Drummond, and that he was born in Bristol. (Others say Virginia or Jamaica). My turn...What you think happened to the head of Blackbeard? YARRR! The Oktober be silent now! Just call me "REDD!" Bilgemunky
It was turned into a silver chalice that now sits handsomely on my fireplace mantle. Next Question - how did Mary Read and Anne Bonney escape their death sentences for piracy? I AM BILGEMUNKY

Capt. Morgan
James Brooke, the White Rajah of Sarawak Where did the US Marine Corps officers get their sword? (yup, pirate question) Touche' Ship's Marksman & Crab Fiend Pyrates of the Coast "All the skill in the world goes out the window if an angel pisses in the flintlock of your musket." "Florida points like a guiding thumb, To the southern isles of rumba and rum, To the mystery cities and haunted seas, Of the Spanish Main and the Caribbees..." Matty Bottles
The handle design on the Marine sword (or at least one of the designs) was taken from the scimitars of the Barbary Coast corsairs, after the U.S. Marines battled them in Tripoli. Okay, um.... Approximately how long did it take Pompey to clean up the Mediterranean? "The time was when ships passing one another at sea backed their topsails and had a 'gam,' and on parting fired guns; but those good old days have gone. People have hardly time nowadays to speak even on the broad ocean, where news is news, and as for a salute of guns, they cannot afford the powder. There are no poetry-enshrined freighters on the sea now; it is a prosy life when we have no time to bid one another good morning." - Capt. Joshua Slocum
Matty Bottles
Okay, um, this was a pirate question, so .... Hint #1 The pirates were based in Cilicia. People have hardly time nowadays to speak even on the broad ocean, where news is news, and as for a salute of guns, they cannot afford the powder. Capt. Morgan
From what I can find in one of my archaeology books, Pompey was tasked with clearing the Cilician Pirates around 70 BC, and had "cleared the seas" by 67 BC, so about 3 years... Here's an easy one... Where was Capt. William Kidd born, and what did he supposedly bury before sailing to begin his privateering career? Touche' Ship's Marksman & Crab Fiend Pyrates of the Coast "All the skill in the world goes out the window if an angel pisses in the flintlock of your musket." Captain Tito
About 3 months. How old was Gasparilla when he was first made an Admiral? Have Parrot Bay, will travel. WILL SHARE TOO!!!
AliasGraceO'Malley
Gasparilla was 26 I believe. Unlucky Kidd was born in Scotland. I'll give half the answer to the other question and phrase the rest. He buried treasure from a ship that he captured. Name the ship and what happened to the treasure. Hint, this would be a reason he was called unlucky.
Captain Tito
The Adventure Prize, and didn't he leave it half full of H2O? What was the name of the Moorish ship that he escaped from the half full Adventure Prize on? Much respect to ye Captain Morgan as we posted at the same time. Have Parrot Bay, will travel. I could go toss POTC in the DVD player and find out, but I'm not that motivated. Instead I'll guess: Is it an 80 foot tall statue of Mickey Mouse?
