lady constance
denverfabrics.com--- they are alkso great for damasks and silks and upholstery fabrics but know well the difference between a melton and flannel, summer weight, mid weight winter weight, boiled wool, sometimes you are best to order swatches.......... and iof you do end up with a weight of wool that aint as thick as you prefer, IRON ON LINING to stiffen it just perfectly-- to hold the shape you want..... Tartan Jack
Many historic sites and reenactors/living history folks buy wool, linen, hemp, and other period material from 96 District Storehouse, based in Abbeville, South Carolina. They are at many reenactments all over the east coast and mid-west. The owners and ones you'll see at events are Dennis and Peggy Earp. The storefront number is 864-366-9600. When Dennis and Peggy are off at events, you'll get Peggy's mom Glenda. The are open Tuesday through Saturday, 10-6. As they are reenactors themselves they go way ot of their way to carry good, period correct materials at the cheapest price they can. They also sell the other stuff you need, like belt buckles, tinware, and various accessories. Liam McMac
Thank you kindly for the responses... I have ordered swatches from several of these sites, but there are a few here that I didn't know about. I am slowly learning the differences between all the fabrics. _Liam McMac Celtic and Pirate Tailor Beware the Iron Brigade!
LadyBrower
Jack- I'm starting to think you are earning a commission from this 96 District Warehouse.... Tartan Jack
I wish. He asked and I supplied someone I know is good, used by many reenactors and historical sites, and comparatively cheap. I am getting tent material from them whenever they are able to restock. I'm to much of a cheapo to buy one and will try to make one instead. I'm also "cheap" enough to get good stuff first, than to get junk and have to replace it with the good stuff later. In the long-run, that costs more. Edit: maybe if enough tell them they heard of 96 through me, they will at least give me a discount. I'm just blessed that they happen to be my CLOSEST fabric store, period.
