When did the use of wax (or perhaps oil) find use to style facial hair? You see paintings of men with these beautiful curved mustaches and wonder...how did they do that?

Back in high school I used beeswax for my Mohawk, its great stuff no matter how fussy your hair may be (working it in there kinda hurts though).

Now to say that its something used back then...I can't. But it's great stuff nonetheless!

substances were used in the hair and beards as far back as the Babylonians at least and probably before them ...so a lot of periods used oils and wax and pomades, ETC. for their hair and beards for both men and women .....well only some of the women used them on their beards I'm sure :P;);)

I know that in Elizabethan England they used bear grease to style hair. I don't know about facial hair however (sounds gross).
