Iron Bess Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Read it for yer selves... http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Movies/06/...lors/index.html Well, you may not realize it but your looking at the remains of what was once a very handsome woman!
Mission Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Well, Waterworld was #5 and Erik the Viking was #4, so I'm not sure how much stock I'd place in that particular list... Still POTC:CotBP was a really fun movie. I guess it "plotted a course into our imaginations." (Whatever that means. ) Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?" John: "I don't know." Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."

JohnnyTarr Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 What Captain Ron was not even on the list? I'm insulted. Git up of your asses, set up those glasses I'm drinking this place dry.
Joe Pyrat Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Aye!!! Here's to Captain Ron!!! The Charles Towne Few - We shall sail... The sea will be our empire.
LadyBarbossa Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 "Ah, but you have heard of me." (Iron Bess *High Fives* the back of Ransom's head and runs like Hell!....) At least it wasn't a high-5 to the face. I'm rather... stunned with the list. It's almost stomach churning. About half those films I saw and the other half I've not seen... and frankly I thought some other film mariners would make better on this list than those named. Sickening. But at least PotC was #1 on the list. But Jack? Well.... memorable indeed. I have to hand it to that. Yes, Captain Ron deserved to be on that list. ~Lady B Tempt Fate! an' toss 't all t' Hell!" "I'm completely innocent of whatever crime I've committed." The one, the only,... the infamous!
Mission Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Cabin Boy was also sorely missing. Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?" John: "I don't know." Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."

Ransom Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 "Ah, but you have heard of me." (Iron Bess *High Fives* the back of Ransom's head and runs like Hell!....) Oweeeee..... You can run, but you can't hide. I'll just follow the scent of tatter tots...... Oh, yeah, they should have included Captain Ron........"If we get lost, we'll just pull over and ask for directions!" ...schooners, islands, and maroons and buccaneers and buried gold... Sjöröveren Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I think Poopdeck Pappy's list lines up pretty well with anything that I could come up with, though I think George Clooney in "The Perfect Storm" should get a mention. And I feel that I, as a rabid Patrick O'Brian fanatic, that I must point out that although Jack Aubrey did eventually reach the rank of Rear Admiral, he was never knighted so he was never known as "Admiral Sir John Aubrey". Trifling and picky, I know, but I'm like that sometimes. the Fool's Gold Pirates
Tartan Jack Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 (edited) I guess NONE of the Errol Flynn characters matter to them . . . -Even if they ARE the quintessential film pirate. Peter Blood (Captain Blood) Geoffrey Thorpe (Sea Hawks) Jamie Durie (The Master of Ballantrae) Brian Hawke (Against All Flags) (Just to name 4 that are MUCH better movies than some on the list) Edit: Oh and I am watching The Master of Ballantrae as I type this . . . Rumba Rue Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Hey, where is Yellowbeard? That's one hilarious movie.
Tartan Jack Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Hey, where is Yellowbeard? That's one hilarious movie. On that, I would agree. I got it an it cracks me up, every time. -John "Tartan Jack" Wages, of South Carolina
callenish gunner Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 what about: (in no particular order) Capt. Redd - Walter Matheau /Pirates Spencer Tracey / Old Man and the Sea Tyrone Power /Black Swan Long John Silver-Wallace Beery /Treasure Island (1933?) Horatio Hornblower-Ioan Gruffudd Charles Steward-Alan Ladd /Two Years Before the Mast Billy Budd-Terrance Stamp /Billy Budd Lt Cmdr Phillip Francis Queeg- Humphrey Bogart /Caine Mutiny Duke of Arnoldo- Douglas Fairbanks /The Black Pirate Ned Lynch-Robert Shaw /Swashbuckler Ulysses- Armand Asanti /The Odyssey I'd even add; Sinbad-Kerwin Mathews /The 7th Voyage of Sinbad Come on Kevin Costner???? memorable only because it was a horrible movie!!!!
Tartan Jack Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Horatio Hornblower-Ioan Gruffudd THAT one would have to make the list! -Excellent series -John "Tartan Jack" Wages, of South Carolina
Caraccioli Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 That Black Pirate definitely belongs on such a list. Alas, it's old and careworn, not shiny, colorful and within recent memory. Oh, and what about The Crimson Pirate? That list needs another overacted opus with garish non-PC outfits... "You're supposed to be dead!" "Am I not?"
captjustinkase Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Since Captain Ron was mentioned (which I agree with should be on the list), I thought I would throw some other comical maritime names out there. Not sure if I would add them to the best fo all time list, but I personally still enjoyed the characters. The Pirate King - Ted Hamilton/The Pirate Movie (I think the bewjewelled cod piece make the outfit) The Pirate King - Kevin Kline / Pirates of Penzance Hoops McCann - John Cusack/One Crazy Summer Captain Bully Hayes - Tommy Lee Jones / Nate and Hayes Captain Dogg Brown - Frank Langella/Cutthroat Island Captain Nemo - Naseeruddin Shah / The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen I will also have to agree with Yellowbeard Captain Justin Kase Captain of the Dread Pyrate Ship SeaMonkey Beloved of Anya Kase Also Known As Silverback, The Naughty Bard Quixotic Pyrate of the Desert Seas
captjacksparrowsavvvy Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Unfortunately the link page is missing so I cannot read the list. But I would mention Lionel Barrymoore's Captain Disko and Captain Joy, and also Anthony Quinn's Captain Chavez... and most recently, I'd like to mention a non actor, but real life Captain and hero, Captain Phillips, he would top my list ...
