Iron Bess Posted May 21, 2009 Share Posted May 21, 2009 We lost a true life Disney legend yesterday.... Wayne Allwine, the voice of Mickey Mouse for over 30 years died Monday afternoon. He was only 62 years old. He was the sweetest, nicest, most gentle guy and you could ever know and WHAT a sense of humor! And the best part of the story... Wayne was married over 20 years to Russi Taylor, the voice of Minnie Mouse. Some people that you know… just cannot be replaced. Still… hard to think of Minnie as a widow. Well, you may not realize it but your looking at the remains of what was once a very handsome woman! Still… hard to think of Minnie as a widow. I am so sorry to hear of his passing, Iron Bess. It is always hard to hear of a friend's passing. I remember Tony Jay (a great voice actor, who also passed on in 2006) had said in a Hunchback of Notre Dame interview that when you provide the voice of a famous character you are forever immortalized. Wayne will forever live on thru Mickey Mouse. Whenever we go to the Disney parks, watch the movies, cartoons, commercials and so on, we will hear Wayne. One of the cute stories we have about them was about 10 years ago, they both came up to our office to pick up their Silver Passes for Disneyland. We had only met once before some years before and it was late and they just stood there with their huge smiles on their faces… and we had no idea who they were. It’s not like they were wearing Mickey ears or anything. We chatted a bit and then said *I am so sorry… can you tell me again what Dept you are with?* Wayne chuckled and said in his BEST Mickey voice “Maybe this will help you!” We stayed in touch and were good friends ever since. It’s going to be terribly sad without the two of them together now. Mickey and Minnie… so secretly married all those years.
