Rumba Rue
Hey I'm just an advertiser for him. I think he picked the dates because of 'Talk Like A Pyrate Day'. I also don't think he realized how many other events are going on at the same time. But for now it's in Sept.....everything has been signed, sealed, and done for this. Suggestion, send him a message about perhaps changing the month for next year. BTW- It's my understanding that Marty Klebba is helping Mitch with this event. Iron Bess
BTW- It's my understanding that Marty Klebba is helping Mitch with this event. Not helping really, just attending. oderlesseye
Not helping really, just attending. You know.. the Star power to attract people with That is the aim... But It ain't changing my mind none..Oceanside gets up to 20,000 poeple attending the Harbor days event...I have had too much fun thar to give it up. _____________________________________________________________________ If anything..over tyme ....And a little luck.. The Queen Mary may well morph into a big event for the Steam Punk crowd... They don't need me to -E- mail as We can see they have a good start by getting Abney Park to play at thar Mascaraed Ball.It is a perfect location for that. .. It be thar gain ifen they stay abreast of what is written on these boards.. I was just wondering Why organizers don't put much thought in choice of dates... There are only so many of us...to go around.. We went to Ojia this week end and found that though it was billed as Elizabethan...It was obvious the pirates in port ; out numbered the Queens court and here cohorts..LoL.. Ahhhh..... Of COURSE we did. The same out at the Big Renaisance Faire in Irwindale. Except for the costumed vendors and workers, the GATE folks were far more Pirate then Mundane or Ren Rat. Blackbead
I DO happen to know that Rumba will have copies of both Raising Black Flags and "A Night at Devil's Tavern" so if you haven't gotten your copy of either OR BOTH of those items, NOW IS YOUR CHANCE!! And I'm willin' to bet that Rumba will autograph either or both, TOO!! "In the end, it's not the gold that sets our sails, 'Tis freedom and the promise of a better life That raises our black flags." According to the Chamber of Commerce that is hosting the event, pirate participation is not so much cancelled as curtailed. Last year the event had a pirate theme and this year it doesn't. Consequently, for this year there will not be tall ships nor pirate battles. However, they are still inviting guilds (their words not mine) to come and setup at the event. So, indeed the pirate activity portion is cancelled, but pirate attendance/setup is not, which is a tad self-defeating IMO. I guess they will just have to wait and see how that pans out for them. I haven't heard why they canceled it. But I have heard some talk of a possible tall ship or pirate event in November i Oceanside. I'll post details when I hear something is firmly planned. Meanwhile, we'll be at the Pyrate Daze event Sept. 19-20 It's sounding like it will be quite a lot of fun. --Jamaica Rose --Jamaica Rose Editor of No Quarter Given - since 1993 http://www.noquartergiven.net/ "Bringing a little pirate history into everyone's life" Find No Quarter Given ... on Facebook: facebook.com/noquartergiven ... and on Twitter: @NoQuarterGiven

Mad Eye Mitch
I saw ya at Belmont Shore Gray Dog- Sorry I didn't get to talk with ya there. I did Oceanside last year as one of the Pyro's setting off charges at the aft end of the ship for the battle show. It was great fun! Needless to say, been there done that. As for Ojai, what a great place but personally I've not only attened as a player but was a stage act for several years at this event. Why I picked this weekend Sept. 19 & 20, was, yes, because of Talk Like a Pirate Day as well as giving a choice of events to attend and adding a new CONVENTION. For those who attened I hope to see you there and have a great time, those who don't, there's always next year. You can read more in the 15th Anniversary of No Quarter Given, page 12.
