Thanks for the link Patrick. Rusty Nell has been researching this and we are making a mold for some sugar glass bottles for the pub next year. Let's script something out for a good old fashioned bar fight hehehe. I found something 100 times better than sugar glass its a plastic polimer calles Smash Plastic - they keep longer and only get more brittle with age - sugar glass in Florida can be a problem the humidity makes it soft.--- and well semi-soft sugar glass won't break and can hurt. I just need the time to make some molds. i've had a few artists offer to make some for me. I'm determined to have some this year at PIP, we decided long ago it suits my character that bottles would be her weapon of choice. “PIRACY, n. Capt. Sterling Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Any links? Guest Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Just to clarify.... the sugar glass bottles an' such... I thought it would be funny for the first battle to feature a buncha very drunk pyrates.... too drunk to really threaten the Fort.... but the fort's defenders still shoot at them.... (thus the break-away bottles). "Oooooh look fancy boys." then ..<someone shoot at the Pyrates, and the mechanical devise breaks the bottle> .... then the Pyrates kinda shoot back..... "He shot me rum..." (why is the rum all gone....) (yeah... I know....) Well of course they get mad.... "we'll be back, and get yew......" An' they stagger off with a few shots fired up in the air..... and that ends the first ..... well not much of a battle.... but enough gun fire to attract the tourist.....
Silkie McDonough Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Nice thing about patrick's plan is that it doesen't require high numbers, sometimes the first battle is light on participants because many are still traveling. lol

Guest Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I'm just figuring from the distance ... no one inside the Fort (the Tourist) could see the ...Well ....." devise" that breaks the bottle.... but breaking real glass would present a problem.... so I thought candy glass...... (as well as figuring out how to spring load something to break a bottle, but not hit your fingers....ouch) We only need one..... but it has to be large enough so everyone inside the Fort can see the bottle breaking...... The effect.... Pyrate.... "arrgh... ye red bellys... can't hit noffin....." BANG... the bottle explodes (it has to explode for the "joke" to be seen" ) The Pyrate brings the bottle up to his lips, and then realizes that it was shot.... Pyrate "Me Rum... Me rum be gone.......We'll be back fer ye........" Yeah, I know its a buncha clowning...... ( have I ever mentioned that I was once a professional clown... ) It's called the "blow off" the "punch lin" as it were..... I know it's stupid...... but not any more stupid than a bunch of Pyrates standing outside of a Fort and shooting small arms at it (outta fairness...and Public safety..... we're kinda stuck with that......)
Silkie McDonough Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 ...( have I ever mentioned that I was once a professional clown... )Pat my good pyrate, you had no need to tell us. We can tell.
Guest Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Wot..... I never juggled any of yer table ware......... but the knives looked like fun........
Guest Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 OH yeah.... and I gots ter mention...... Clownin' be some hard work......
Silkie McDonough Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Most clowns that I know had to go to college for it!
RustyNell Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 My plan --- been cooking it up since I decided on my "weapon" of choice was to start it with my being pissed at a pirate for once AGAIN!! being short on his tab. I like people oweing me but I'm a loon and sometimes I snap. I figure I throw the first one and ....almost hitting someone else ...the person I almost hit thinks it came from someone other than me and attacks them....etc etc etc “PIRACY, n. Commerce without its folly-swaddles, just as God made it.” Ambrose Bierce
Silkie McDonough Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 so ...you making breakaway onion bottles? I want some. We shall have to talk price when we next see each other.
RustyNell Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I have been looking into making plastic polimer breakaway bottles...better than candy glass in this humidity...I looked into just buying candi glass bottles for the convienence but I don't want to smash 20 bucks a pop. With all that goes into it I can see why they charge that much for them... if I can ever find the time to get the molds made I plan to make some eventually.... i just have so many sewing projects!! that alone is overwhelming.... if we want to go to Blackbeard I have to get busy..... anyway.... between that and work and gigs, and writing, and recording... and learning new music.... and working on the house..... argh....not to mention I've lost 2 hours a day of project time byy riding my bike to and from work...... anyway I must be nuts...we'll see... I really want to get them done... i just have to be realistic and take one project at a time... once I finally have the molds and the process down, and know how much they are costing me to make...I would be more than happy to make extra's to sell, VERY!!! reasonably to my PIP family of course. “PIRACY, n. Silkie McDonough Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 What about th sound? For a bar room brawl close up the sound needs to be there. On a stage it isn't so hard becausel the sound all comes from the same direction. If we have spectators on 2 or 3 sides and there is no back stage it won't be believable. Only experience I have is with the sugar & on a stage so it may not be a concern.
Capt. Sterling Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Aye sugar glass does not sound like glass breaking, but if the noise of the rest of the fight is loud enough, it could mask the glass sound... Silkie McDonough Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Ouch ...25 bucks a pop! I'll stick to the bed warmer as my weapon of choice.
Capt. Sterling Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Cheaper than the other stuff at what... 197 dollars a gallon not to mention the additional cost of needed items to create a mold, plus time and labor making all the bottles.
