Capt. Sterling Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 (edited) To the Family, As always a job well done, a bit too well done perhaps as ye sold out the exhibit both nights, the second being done in less than two hours and then ye all became the exhibit. I will get ye all a total of numbers but so far ye dealt with 4000 on Thursday and 9000 on Friday. And Mr. Merriweather is a celebrity now... as we were entering the building Friday a group of boys saw him and started pointing and saying amongst themselves Look its John King from Whydah....his head no longer fits his hat! A special thanks to Maddogge, Grace and Cheeky for all the great photos, can't wait to see em posted! Between Maddogge "collecting" everyone's valubles at the check in and stopping traffic out on the street, to Bess's teeth(thanks for remembering all them gold coins for the kids)Billie and Gwen with Gunner's pet from the new world (all night long all ye could hear were kids and women screaming) and Dutch and Lilly swamped at the navigation/gaming table, Mr. Symms assisting the table, Madame Grace (who even got the chance to sing with Mary!), the lads in their new pirate pose, Pete Staw with his bag of gems, Mad Mary, Jamie (Yer kit is coming together beautifully, keep up the good work!), Carl, Charlton and the lovely English, Mr. Bottles and Bryan talking to all the folks and having Mr. March with us once again...AND HAVING GUNS AND SWORDS!!! It was hard work but well worth every second! A grand job of it all!! The staff is thrilled and we will be back for their events over the summer as well as the Family Field Day next Saturday. Thank ye again for all that ye do and do so well! Edited March 15, 2009 by Capt. Lily Alexander Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 THANK YOU Captain and everyone involved in giving us the opportunity to be involved in this wonderful event. It was an amazing exhibit and an even greater time sharing this opportunity with you all. O'Keeffe and I are very excited to be going back next week. Capt. Sterling Posted March 16, 2009 Author Posted March 16, 2009 Pictures? But of course there are pictures.... I saw them Friday after the event thanks to Maddogge who brought along his laptop. Mary Diamond Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 I would be remiss if I did not thank Madame Grace for her kind accompaniment ~ Friday night was really my first night singing in public, and I had worked very hard to learn the lyrics and get comfortable with the sound of my voice (and overcome my own self-consiousness as well!). I look forward to singing with you more, Grace! I was amazed at the number of people attending ~ I had initally been surrounded at the museum entrance, and was able to gradually move past the Fantastic display tables (really nicely done, everyone!) further into the floor (to better reach more audience, without taking away from anyone else). Acting as the merchant/trader, I was buying children (I was amused at how happy some parents were at the opportunity, even moreso when their children reacted with apalled disbelief), "selling" my wares (and explaining about them at the same time), giving references for tailors, instructors, adventurers and tobacco traders with pc tradecards and labels... One of the children was learning French, and was excited to recieve a tradecard of a French tailor ~ another parent of 2 young ladies was commenting on the less skilled penmanship one of the children exhibited, to which I was happy to offer her a tradecard of a calligrapher and penmanship instructor. I had a docent and her husband compliment me on my interaction with the continuous groups of children and how the children all had the A-Ha! Moment (something I would have never expected, but was happy to hear, as I have been trying to improve that as well). I even had opportunity to discuss period printing practices with a member, who was thrilled with her tradecard, and brought back her entire family to be "sold". I was disappointed I didn't have much time to spend with the Crewe, but we were all so busy the entire night ~ I look forward to seeing you all at the next gathering! Oooh, shiny!
