Patrick Hand
In the kinda near future, I want to start working on a Steampunk sub-gattling gun... I've never really liked Steampunk "ray-guns"... but they do have the advantage of not being mistaken for a real gun... (I had that problem at Burning Man with my Dinosaur Hunting Rifle (see picture below) Anyway, I want something that looks steamy, but not too much like a real gun.... I will post pictures once I start working on it, but to start things off, here are some that I'm working on.... The Standard modified Nerf Maverick... Yeah, I know everyone paints them, I just wanted to play with one and change it a bit.... This is the Dino-Express before I finished it.... This was a revolver I was whittling... unfortunately it broke before I completed it....(the bottom picture was what I wanted it to look like when it was finished...) Hawk the QM
I showed my dad these pictures yesterday and he loved them. He likes the idea that I do the pirate thing but he cracked a huge smile when he saw the Airship stuff. Good times.
Rats
OK so tonight for Christmas my two sons and I each got a nerf Maverick.... I haven't let them shoot it yet, but they're even just having a blast running around yelling, "Going somewhere Solo?? Open the blast doors!! Let's Rock!!" ANd then shooting me...... Well worth the 8 bucks spent!! Oh and BTW: I picked up the Serenity DVD at Shopko for about 6 bucks!!! No rest for the wicked! Wait a minute... that's me?! DocF225
I have three Mavericks that I started tearing down to modify. I'm workin up a Steam (pneumatic) backpack cannon sort of like the beast in the pictures. Still working on the conceptual drawings but it'll be very cool. I figure a brace of modified mavericks, the back pack cannon and a cutlass or sabre will be my armament. Might throw in a couple smaller blades too. Doc Wiseman - Ship's Physician, Stur.. er... Ransom
Chain Shot bought two replica flintlock pistols, and some kind of snub-barreled flintlock — all for $13 at an antique/junk store. The two flintlocks have broken hammers, as they were made out of cheap pot metal, but both have some nice brass on the butts and sides, so will be fun to remake into something steamy. The snub-barreled one will be mine to play around with and alter. All three were originally kids cap pistols. I'll post some before and after pictures as we work on them. ...schooners, islands, and maroons and buccaneers and buried gold... You can do everything right, strictly according to procedure, on the ocean, and it'll still kill you. But if you're a good navigator, a least you'll know where you were when you died.......From The Ship Killer by Justin Scott. Because I am a special snowflake who has an opinion of such import that it must be shared and because people really care what I think!

Capt. Bo of the WTF co.
Moved this over from the other thread; I still got my 1858 Remington, 1851 Colt navy, a repro Colt SA Peacemaker in 44-40, and a 1863 Remington Zouave with Redfield peep site and hooded front for sniper action, but I wanna do something really out there with the paintball gun. It was top-o-the-line in it's day when I bought it,(1994) but a dinosaur now. (Tippman Pro-Lite semi-auto.) It's been out of service so long, I'm sure the o-ring seals will need replaced. Gotta dig it outta the shed sometime. Thinking about sliding a brass or copper pipe over the barrel, making a brass heat sheild, add some brass plate here and there. Oughta fit in with this eh? Patrick..er.. Silas; I have a long brass tube rifle scope that is outta whack, can't find anyone to fix it, but would look good on top of that 'ellifino gun you built. Want it? I'm gettin all my garb out today and see how it all fits together. Bo
Patrick Hand
I was sketching out how to modify my Tipmann, when Ompah (he's kinda the patron Saint of poor Airship Pyrates..He finds and gives me all kinda cool stuff....) asked what I was working on... so I explained, and he went out to his car and brought in two old "Splatmaster" paint ball pistols.... "ya want em...?" So I'll give ya three guesses wot I'm going to be Steampunkin'.....
Capt. Bo of the WTF co.
GAWD! I played my first "game" while stationed in South Carolina when those were the only guns around! I wore goose bumps for a week from hits! Cool find. So, do ya want that scope fer yer 'ellifino gun too? I won't use it and it's just sitting around in the sword bucket here. I'm not using the Dino Rifle any more... even though it's only a prop, it looks just a little too much like a real gun .....too much of a hustle with real police.... Thanks anyway.... Patrick Hand
I got two of them, so I'll mod the one missing the black muzzle rings.... I want to make it look like a very short sawed off shotgun/pistol... but not so real that I get hassled by the Police..... Oh, yeah... and keep it so it can still fire... I looked on-line, and you can get them for $15.00, so I'm not really destroying some "classic collectors item"......
John Maddox Roberts
Let's not forget those premier hand weapons of the 19th century - the Bowie knife and brass knuckles. I have a number of Bowies in my collection, and the Ultimate Bowie on the way - a line for line copy of the celebrated Musso Bowie, with its 14-inch, curved blade and brass-sheathed spine, knife and cutlass in one, a boarding weapon if ever there was one. And though they're pricey, Dixie Gun Works sell a double-barreled Howdah Pistol, in 20 gauge smoothbore or .50 caliber rifled, or one barrel of each. With the Musso and the Howdah, I'd feel equal to most boarding situations. Edited February 19, 2009 by John Maddox Roberts
Patrick Hand
Wot.... something like this? I'm not finished with the bowie/cutlass yet... I still have to add a copper rib to the back of the blade, and do the final finishing.... and then make a scabbard for it.... I still have to finish the flight helmet, and re-plate the goggle's lens ring.....

Patrick Hand
Is that a Mexican knife? Yeah... I'm thinking of grinding the birds head off and changing the shape... It originally was shaped more like a falcion, I ground down the tip to make it look more like a Bowie.....

Guest
One of the parts that gets weird..... for Pyrates, we can carry flintlocks (ever notice how the Police are more concerned about the swords we carry?) anyway......Steampunks carrying weapons might freak out the police.... cowboys/gunslingers (out here in the West) or Civil War, Pyrates or most period of reenactment, it isn't that much of a problem...... but a real (even black powder gun (yeah, I know they are also real) might cause some hustles..... just think about it first..... I think that is why "ray guns" are more popular with the Steampunks..... or "over the top"... obviously not real guns work..... Hey, at Burning Man, I got stopped with my Dino Rifle, Two car loads of cops, .....I know what to do..... hands up,.... let them check you... (they have real guns...)....It was kinda funny when they pulled back the bolt, and the chunka carved wood carved as the bolt fell out..... but they were serious...... I don't wanna get shot for a toy/prop........ A mod (modification) of a real (even black powder... they are considered toys, but they are still real) might be more hustle than it is worth...... Just something to think about......

Funny how you don't need a permit for a black powder revolver but its just as deadly as a "real" revolver... Here in Eugene the only guys who get hassled by the cops are the ones who wear swords and guns in costume on a daily basis with no event to go to. Now THAT makes the cops nervous!
