Merrydeath Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I got to go to the Iowa City area con, and there was a steampunk theme. My pic is from there, as a Merry Ray consultant.. because Beauty hurts! This was my first steampunk event ever. I think I did ok, but I would like some constructive criticism. Pirate Lass with sass, brass, a cutlass, an a nice *ss. Thank you for the compliment. And we're not done with M.U.T. but he wound up getting so much attention we got asked so much to put up an FB page for him so we did. https://www.facebook...169345963104670 We want to get some time to do more work on him before we can get out and get our 'steampunk on'. Our outfits were put together sooooo quick so we also want to spend some times with that as well. Thank you for that compliment as well. BTW. I saw your pic. I like. I love the fabrics. Nice and 'rich' looking. Mission Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Hey, Pete. Are these your younglings? Nifty. That sure is a pretty 4-4-0 with a balloon stack there, too. Mycroft: "My brother has the brain of a scientist or a philosopher, yet he elects to be a detective. What might we deduce about his heart?" John: "I don't know." Mycroft: "Neither do I. But initially he wanted to be a pirate."

Dread Pyrate Greyhound Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 I'd like to try out steampunk, but sadly, i've got other things on my agenda and i don't know any good steampunk places or events, though i have a coat that'd probably work. Let every man Know freedom, Kings be damned, And let the Devil sort out the mess afterwards.
Cheeky Actress Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Oh...I love these Maddogge. I am waiting to hear back from Eric Larson (Steampunk creator Midwest Teslacon II). Applications are now being looked over for our "Captain Nemo"...now we wait and see. Member of "The Forsaken"
Mae Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 (edited) Forgot how awesome this thread is...have killed an hour at work looking at the pics and taking notes! Couple of pics below from a shoot last month...Steampunk is nearer and dearer to my heart than ever. Hope it sticks around for a long, long time. Guest Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Well first off, here is a picture showing the leather Flight Helmet and goggles that I made for Martie's Christmass present...(It is also wired for sound, there is an MP3 Player in the pouch in back and the earphones work...) And finaly a picture of the goggles that I modified (I got them last year from my Secret Santa..but am just gettting around to posting the picture.)
Guest Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I just finished the corset for Martie.... I used some upholstery fabric for the outside and brown canvas for the lining. and for the boning, I used zip ties cut to length. I didn't have any eyelets, so I had to sew them all by hand .... So here she is in her new corset,(now she has cleavage...she's realy happy about that..... ) and wearing her leather Flight helmet she got for Christmass and her raygun from last Christmass...
Stynky Tudor Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I really like the Zip Tie boneing idea too - very clever.
Guest Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 I really like the Zip Tie boneing idea too - very clever When I went to Jo-Anns for boning, it was really expensive, so I did a web-search for alternatives.... I cut off the lock part of 20" zip ties, and slightly melted the ends to round them, and they worked great. The only problem is that Martie wants me to make her more corsets for different occasions This is a link to the corset pattern page.... http://www.ralphpink.com/pattern-cutting/womenswear/corsets And this is a really good vidio tutorial on how to make a corset. http://www.ralphpink.com/tutorials/corsetry-construction
Ransom Posted January 25, 2012 Author Posted January 25, 2012 Zip Tie corset boning...brilliant! Oh, and the ray gun you made me was the topic of interesting conversation not long ago. Everyone thought it was VERY kewl! ...schooners, islands, and maroons and buccaneers and buried gold... You can do everything right, strictly according to procedure, on the ocean, and it'll still kill you. But if you're a good navigator, a least you'll know where you were when you died.......From The Ship Killer by Justin Scott. Louisiana Jeff Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 We use this at work to support telephone cables: http://www.stanleysupplyservices.com/product-group.aspx?id=9111. It's 1/2 wide and stronger than a zip tie. It comes in a roll so it could be cut (with good scissors) to length and the ends can be easily trimmed. I don't know how the price would compare to regular zip ties but it might be better for custom corsets.
